As Hollywood plows through every movie and TV show ever made to turn it into to a vamped-up modernized version of itself, they are eventually, at some point, going to hit all your favorites. And while there is the reflex to gag and moan with bewilderment at the lack of ideas and the remolding of your beloved characters into lackluster remakes, sometimes you can't help but get excited. Case in point: Fraggle Rock.
The rights to Gobo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red, who lived down in Fraggle Rock, "down at Fraggle Rock!", have been acquired by New Regency in a deal for a film that will be produced by The Jim Henson Company and the Montecito Picture Company.
The Muppets, another Jim Henson creation, is being revived via big screen November 23. If it goes well, expect this to be fast tracked. In the right hands this will be great, though there is still the chance it could turn out like the Smurfs movie and taint all your childhood memories. They're debating using CGI instead of the real puppets you knew and cherished from 1983-87. Go ahead and embrace feeling old. At least you got the better version of most things.
