For those not in the know, the BAFTA (British Academy of Film Television and Arts) Awards took place last weekend. That, in and of itself, isn't news: unless you're British, you probably don't care (and probably not even then). So, why am I mentioning it? Because an incredibly cool advertising campaign came out of the BAFTAs this year. To promote the show, the Academy commissioned Tavis Coburn -- a rising young illustrator who has worked with clients such as Dyson and Nike -- to create a series of retro film posters, one for each of this year's Best Film nominees: An Education, Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Precious and Up in the Air. I love the splashy colors and stilted 1960s/1970s feel of each image and I'm sure you will too. Check them out after the break.

Pretty cool, no? If you're interested in seeing more of Tavis Cobern's work, you can visit him at his website or check out these photo galleries from the agency at which he works. Most of his stuff is in the vein of these movie posters and, I have to say, I dig almost all of it.
