The trailer for Filth and Wisdom resembles your average picaresque quirk film about misfits in London's ethnic underworld. Then, about thirty seconds in, everything changes when the title "The Directorial Debut of Madonna," appears onscreen. Suddenly the mention of saving starving African children, and images of S&M and pole dancing become Madge touchstones. The film stars Eugene Hutz, lead singer of gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello, as some kind of alterno version of himself. How Madonna finds the time to direct movies, tour the world, and cheat on her husband, is beyond me.
