imageInterview's April coverboy/Kanye West lover Zac Efron has just danced off the set of the Footloose remake. Apparently, doing a trio of saccharine musicals that vaguely rip off Grease has killed his appetite for subsequent song-and-dances. But fear not, Efronites!

He'll next star in 17 Again, a comedic bildungsroman which not only boasts a touching tagline ("Who says you're young only once?"), but also features Matthew Perry playing the grown-up version of Zac Efron's character. This could be the last significant "safe" flick in his budding repertoire, but that gleam in his eye is now fixed onto something bolder: serious roles. Efron's flirting dangerously with the Elizabeth Berkeley Effect: "You know, everything I've done in the past has felt very safe, and it was great for a while, but now I'm looking for a place to take chances." And while he'll inevitably have his own awkward Showgirls moment of mediocrity, he looks to be making a shortsighted mistake by walking out on the chance to repurpose Ren McCormack and become the nucleus of his own Six Degrees of Separation meme for a new generation of pop culture sharks.
