Perhaps one of the very first maestros of the mash-up, the dudes behind Soulwax (or 2ManyDJs, also known as Flying Dewaele Brothers) are easily two of the most prolific, busy, and in-demand nightlife acts in the world. While they have produced tracks for pals LCD Soundsystem, Tiga, and Justice, it is the epic, ADD-riddled mixes that jump between decades and musical zeitgeists that keep Soulwax firmly in the spotlight. For their current project, titled Radio Soulwax, the Dewaele brothers have created 24 one-hour mixes, complete with synchronized videos (made from the saucy album covers of the tracks) that jump along to the beat.
Their newest mix, titled "Pin Ups," uses only albums with hot babes on the cover. Sampling 850 albums with cover art that is certainly NSFW (disembodied nipples, lush lips, etc.), the duo cut up everything from italo to diva house to make it fit as a coherent, totally unique piece. As they say, "This is in essence a reverse way of working, and god knows it was a huge challenge to find enough good musical bits to work with and cut up, but it definitely makes for an interesting show…" Just make sure your boss isn't looking.
