Stoner hip-hop fans, rejoice. Adweek reports that Jay-Z is struck a development deal with Adult Swim that would involve an original animated series. This isn't the first time the Cartoon Network has collaborated with rappers; the Adult Swim-themed album The Mouse and the Mask was by Danger Mouse and MF Doom, T-Pain had a cameo in Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Mos Def, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg all had speaking roles in The Boondocks. But this is on a whole other level!

There are very few details yet. We don't know whether Jay will be a character in the show, write it, contribute music to it, whatever. I'm hesitant to heap praise on this idea yet because although we all love Hova, it's sort of hard to picture him being funny in an Adult Swim context. The rumored Odd Future collab makes a lot of sense, but Jay might be a little too classed-up (see: Life + Times).

Other rappers that are perhaps more fitted to Adult Swim than Jay-Z: Kanye West, Lil B, and Das Racist. Especially Lil B. It could be an animated cooking show, and it would be awesome.

Here's an example of a successful Adult Swim/hip hop collaboration:
