As reported, rapper Lil B's next album will be titled "I'm Gay." It's a natural next step for someone who makes songs like "I'm Miley Cyrus" and "Bitch I'm Bill Clinton," but this time it seems more nakedly attention-grabbing than usual. As we've wondered before, is it just a bad publicity stunt? In an interview with CNN, of all places, Lil B denies it: "I didn't do this for promotional reasons." Regarding the threats he's received since the announcement:
"Mainly, a lot of them are on Twitter, saying that they're going to kill me for being gay, and they're going to kill me for being homosexual even though I'm not homosexual. I don't like men. They're saying they're going to bash my head in. They're calling me f-----. That's all right, because I did this with the pure intention in my heart to help people, and I didn't do this for promotional reasons. I did because there needs to be someone brave enough to do it, brave enough to speak up and have the right reasonings of doing it."
"The right reasonings of doing it" sounds well-intentioned, but what are those "reasonings"? He never really explains. How does titling your album "I'm Gay" help actual, real live gays? At least it gets people thinking about the subject, which is a start. But it doesn't seem like B really thought the whole thing through. Or maybe he did, and he's purposefully being obtuse so we'll decipher it on our own? We might be overthinking this whole thing. Or maybe he is. We haven't even heard the damn album yet.
The best part of this interview, though, is when the very credulous CNN reporter asks Lil B about that Kanye West tweet: "On Twitter, you threatened to sexually assault Kanye West if he didn't respond to your tweets. Why threaten Kanye West with sexual violence?" B's response is "I have a funny sense of humor."
