Call him “Cannes-ye West.” Or don’t because that pun would be terrible and someone, somewhere would probably just shake his or her head in despair that you could even possibly come up with such a horrible pun. Anyway.

Remember that time Kanye West posted a legendary Twitter manifesto and announced his new creative collective, DONDA? And they were hiring or something because there was a GMail address? Well, the first DONDA project will make its debut at Cannes this week: Cruel Summer, a short art film directed by West and presented by the design group. Cruel Summer will show for several days at Cannes as part of "an immersive seven-screen experience" (sit down, IMAX), although it is not entered into the competition.

For his 2010 album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, West has released a handful of music videos, each with a different aesthetic. There was the video-meets-Renaissance-painting aesthetic of "Power," the Hype Williams-helmed "All of the Lights" and Ruth Hogben's recently-released stunner of a SHOWStudio collaboration for "Lost in the World." West even spent some time behind the camera on the half-hour-plus short film for "Runaway," which features dancing girls, exploding cars and a pretty insane amount of effort. West also directed the live-show, strobe-tastic, complete-with-live-tigers video for "Ni**as in Paris" off of Watch the Throne. These should give us some indication of how Cruel Summer will go — or none at all. Sometimes, it's hard to tell with Kanye.
