The duo that comprise Minnesota band Now, Now, Every Children may be barely older than twenty, but Cacie Dalager and Brad Hale have been playing together since high school, when they would meet after marching band practice to write songs. They posted the tunes on MySpace and gained a following before even playing a show. After two EPs -- Not One, But Two and In the City -- the band’s full-length debut Cars comes out July 9 on Afternoon Records, and it's already garnering praise from critics for its broody minimalism. You can catch Now, Now Every Children May 4 at Mercury Lounge, but first Cacie tells us about being detained in France and wanting to be best friends with Hermione in our inquisitive but not always grammatically correct, Pop Quiz.
When you were in elementary school, what did you want to be when you grew up? I've never had any idea what I wanted to do until band stuff started happening. I only remember once when I was super little saying I wanted to be a puppy in the circus. I've never been able to picture myself growing up, so I never really had much of a clue what I saw myself doing when I was younger.
Do you have any tattoos? No. This is a very sensitive subject for me. I'm quite bitter about it. I want nothing more than to be able to afford getting a shit ton of tattoos. I've had what I want planned for years, but I keep having to spend money on band stuff and groceries.
If you could have any super power, what would you choose? I would like to talk to animals or read minds. But I would have to be able to read animals' minds too.
What restaurant would you eat at every day if you could? Probably Chipotle. It's not a specific restaurant, but I could eat Asian food all day, any day, or I could just live off of apples.
How many times a day on average do you think about sex? Dude, nonstop.
Have you ever been arrested? We got sent to a detainment room in France.
What's your guilty pleasure? Taylor Swift. The love of my life.
Do you have a favorite bar in New York? Not yet, I haven't really been to New York that much.
Ever been star struck? Not that I can think of. I think the whole star struck concept is kinda silly most of the time. Although I would probably cry and/or pee myself if I met Molly Shannon.
What do you always watch if it's on TV? UFO Hunters. Generally the History Channel is usually my go-to channel. I also love Project Runway and Ace of Cakes.
What do you normally sleep in? Oversized plaid or checkered pants and a t-shirt. Maybe a hoodie and socks ... just super attractive.
Where's the craziest place you've had sex? Ask me this question after our next tour. I'll come back with good stories for you.
What's on your computer wallpaper? A picture of my younger cousin screaming and attacking the world with a pillow.
If you could be any literary character, who would you be? Harry Potter, so I could be best friends with Hermione.
Where do you really want to be right now? Kiel, Germany. Or in the studio working on our next record. If there was a studio in Kiel then I would be the happiest little camper.
What's the best advice you ever got? It's not direct advice from someone, but there is this song by Margo and the Nuclear So and So's where the line is "This skin belongs to you, so use it as you choose." I have that line going through my head all the time. If you actually listen to the song, you'll find out it means probably nothing close to what it sounds like it would mean, but those words have been helpful to me regardless of their actual meaning.
