So in these last few hours before 2009 caves in on its self and life plays out like the last 15 minutes of that James Cameron film about people dying (Titanic or Avatar really -- choose your own adventure!) and then everyone's born anew right in time for 2010, I thought about making some sort of cynical music-related list that would track the decline in popular music of either the aughts or this past year. But then Popjustice did that quite tersely. In fact, their list leaves no pop gem unturned. Which now makes any last-minute lists all the more redundant. So in lieu of that, here is a Sigur Rós-scored piece chronicling the evolution of Super Mario Bros.. Even though the antics of the fireball-shooting plumber became increasingly bland as this decade rolled on, it curiously became cool again to like video games. Maybe we can blame Spike for that. Bid adieu to 2009 with the most uplifting Super Mario clipshow ever, after the break.
