image China, not exactly known for its liberal sexual policies, was on schedule to open a sexually explicit theme park this October, called Love Land. However, after the worldwide press got ahold of the preliminary information last week, there was a hasty "inspection" this weekend, resulting in a full stop in park production this morning. Located in the in the southwestern metropolis of Chongqing, Love Land was trying to mix it up with cheesy sculptures of genitals, sex education seminars, and suggestive exhibits. To get an idea of the aesthetic, the entrance to the park featured the name of the park: "Love Land" being straddled by a pair of legs topped by a red thong, and reportedly, there were "butt sinks" in which to wash your hands.

No word on if and what kind of rides there would have been. In a country where less than 10 percent of the population seeks immediate medical attention for sexual problems, Love Land was aiming to break down some barriers about sex education. The park's manager, Lu Xiaoqing, had said Love Land would have helped people "enjoy a harmonious sex life."

"We are building the park for the good of the public," Lu said. "Sex is a taboo subject in China, but people really need to have more access to information about it." Many were pleased with the "vulgar" park being shut down, but others were bummed about it. “The park was above board, so why was it pulled down? How can a country get powerful if it doesn't open its mind?," said an anonymous commenter. And really, there is nothing more mind opening than a g-string.
