While the travel industry doesn't go quite as hog wild as the retailers do -- the lines forming at JFK or LAX at 4:15 am the day after Thanksgiving are not for special savings on round trip flights to the Caribbean -- there are some deals to be had starting this Friday as the luxury goods retailers try to make some kind of cash in this depressed travel season. Though the deals might get a little more fast and furious for Cyber Monday, when people put down their shopping bags and start clicking their way through holiday sales, there are three good sales you can get your hands on this Friday.
1. Want to go to the Kentucky Derby? The Galt House Hotel is offering a $700 discount on packages for the 2010 Derby. This is obviously a fabulous deal for those that already know they want to head to Kentucky for the races. Those that are unsure, don't spend the cash because it's non-refundable. The deal is $1500 for the Exacta package, and $2000 for the Trifecta deal (Trifecta comes with a larger room). It's a three-night stay (April 29 to May 2), parking, gym, Wi-Fi, and a "commemorative gift," plus a dozen red roses. The sale starts ridiculously early, at 1:36 in the am, in honor of the 136th Run for the Roses.
2. Feel like a long weekend? Shell Vacations is holding a sale on 26 resorts around the US and Canada with deals like 40% and 50% off regular rates. Check out their cute website here; it gives little hints about the deals to come.
3. Travel aggregator giant Travelocity is holding a sale that runs through Monday. Some of the deals include $75 off a four-night ski vacation in Colorado, and 40% off trips to the Caribbean and Costa Rica. Check it out here.
