Diane von Furstenberg, she of the wrap dress and general amazingness, is bringing her fabulous style to London's Claridge's hotel. She's decorating twenty of the five-star hotel's rooms with original furniture and fabrics, with four of the rooms set to open next Wednesday. "One of my fondest memories was when I was in London as a young, independent businesswoman and stayed at Claridge’s. I knew I had made it," Von Furstenberg said. "To me, Claridge’s is the most glamorous hotel in the world." Now it'll be even more glam, it seems.
For each room, von Fursterberg has designed a vanity, traveling trunk, cocktail bar, and desk. The Claridge's collaboration is von Furstenberg's first interior design project outside of her stores, and it's one she has taken very seriously. "It's all about the usage and proportion," she tells the Wall Street Journal, adding "creating furniture came naturally."
One of the rooms she's designing is the hotel's famed Piano Suite. DVF is famed for her patterns, and that's evident in what she's done, mixing bold Chinese florals with animal prints. Some of von Furstenberg's own photographs, taken on her travels throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, will also hang in her designer rooms.
Claridge's has been in operation in Mayfair, London since the middle of the 19th century. Through the years, the luxury hotel has hosted numerous European royals and celebrities. The DVF-Claridge's collaboration is just one of an increasing number of hotel-fashion pairings.
