Vegas is hurting for business. Hotel development is on freeze. Naughty deeds are going undone. Clearly, Vegas needs a plan. Here it is: Host the entire over-21 (and able to get off work) population of teensy tiny Texas town Cransfill Gap (population 350) on a baller weekend in Vegas. Nearly 120 C-Gappers will be given a five-day red carpet treatment, including private jet transportation, luxury digs, free shows, and fancy restaurants. Spending cash for gambling and/or shopping is not included. The catch?
They'll be filmed 24/7 for a commercial that will air in early 2009. Residents of the one-stoplight town are pumped about the getaway. One couple even plans to get hitched at the drive-through wedding chapel. Word on the Strip is that this publicity stunt is costing Las Vegas Tourism a cool $2.5 million.
