Unlike his pal Lady Gaga, Breedlove is not particularly glamorous. That's not to say there isn't an element of "glam" (as in the prefix to "rock") to his whiskey and whine performance style, but the singer generally shows up in sweats, stained suits and too-short short shorts. His brand of uncomfortable, heartbreaking, and hilarious ballads have been entertaining LES crowds who crave a live show and a bit of spirited (but humble) fun. With original songs titled "A Date With Myself" or "Only The Good Die Alone," Breedlove tends to own whatever stage he's on, with a charm that has enticed downtown staples like Justin Tranter, Richie Rich, and Sky Fereirra to drop by his cabaret-style show each Monday.
Once stationed in the rock-stained St. Jerome's bar, the brand new iteration of his cultish Magic Monday night opens tonight at Gaga ex-beau Luc Carl's freshly opened venue, The Casino at Ludlow Manor. The revamped show is supposedly bigger and weirder, with more sing-alongs and tributes to the sometimes awkward, always exhilarating New York nightlife. It's a scene for sure, but one that suggests the New York of yore, with ripped jeans and cigarette-smoking badasses wearing sunglasses at night. It's alive each Monday, led by a weirdo in a sequined sweater. Check it out at midnight tonight.
