City Wize [Free] Network TV’s hippest channel takes the hotspots from hit shows like Gossip Girl, 90210 and Melrose Place, and puts them right in the palm of your hand. Want to know where Serena van der Woodsen gets her truffled grilled-cheese sandwich? Where the Beverly Hills kids bowl? Where Auggie from Melrose buys wine? Look no further than this app from the CW, which helps users locate the bars, restaurants, hotels and shops featured in the most addictive shows on primetime. GPS location technology means that whether you’re in L.A. or New York City you’ll always be at the center of the world. “Spotted: You, living like S. and B. You know you love it.”

BNO News [$1.99, with $0.99 monthly subscription] Created by a Dutch teenager, the Breaking News Organization has grown into one of the most important media outlets in the world. The organization? A Twitter account that tweets breaking updates, obscure and otherwise, from all parts of the globe. BNO’s new app provides readers up-to-the-second stories via feed and, even better, uses the iPhone’s push technology to zap text message-like alerts to their phones. Be the first to know when history gets made.

Offender Locator [Free] For anyone who has ever wondered if the extremely creepy guy next door is, in fact, a registered sex offender, boy, have we got the app for you! The Offender Locator allows nosy neighbors to scroll through pictures, addresses and the disturbing histories of convicted perverts who live right around the corner. All it takes is a little touch-screen groping. -- Eiseley Tauginas

Snood [$1.99] The best term paper procrastination tool ever created finally comes to the iPhone. Now, instead of shooting colorful, angry puzzle pieces at other colorful, angry puzzle pieces in a dorm room, those with limited ambition can do it during really long meetings. But be warned: this straightforward, annoying, hypnotic game is more habit-forming (and mindless) than Tetris. And that’s true even before using the app’s most awesome feature: the capability to play friends in head-to-head competitions while on your respective phones.

Got2Go [$1.99] We’ve all been there: a bad date, a boring meeting, a terrible movie, a disgusting meal. There are certain situations from which we all need rescuing -- that’s where Got2Go comes in. It’s an app that can be programmed to send a text message, or even an incoming call, notifying you that things are “bad” and that an “emergency” requires your immediate attention. Though parlaying this cry for help into a smooth exit rests primarily on one’s acting chops, Got2Go gives users the opening they need to flee any sketchy situation.

CoPilot Live North America [$34.99] So yeah, it’s one of the more expensive apps on offer, but look at it like this: it’s a few Benjamins cheaper than buying a full GPS system for your car; it’s less than the competition (TomTom’s app goes for $99); and you’ll never get lost again. Street-by-street navigation and access to CoPilot’s database of obscure roads render paper maps useless. Voice directions guide every turn, which get programmed by a route optimizer that even takes the weather into account.

Star6 [$6.99] From acclaimed music sampler Jason Forrest comes an app that allows aspiring DJs to remix their own songs. That wouldn’t justify the $7 price tag if it didn’t also come with a barrage of Forrest’s trademark samples, a library that will keep growing with updates even after purchase. The app acts, feels and sounds like a professional mixing program, and the results can be blasted on the spot. Anything that can make first-timers sound this good can’t be bad.
