The museums in New York want you to come out and play through the winter, and to prove it, they're leaving their doors open late at least one night a week in the hopes of luring the after-work crowd in for some early-evening (that's late-night for them) culture. To make a sweet deal even sweeter, most of the museums are trying to coordinate their later hours with their free admission days, hoping that the broke-but-cute students that show up for the cheap door will lure in the young professionals that might want to hit on said broke-but-cute students. NewYorkology has the full list of what's on when, but here's the abbreviated version, with the top choice for late night culture every night of the week.
Monday - New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex at Grand Central Terminal, 8pm, free. Grand Central is always a gorgeous place to visit.
Tuesday - Society of Illustrators, 8pm, free. Art students galore!
Wednesday - Museum of Jewish Heritage, 8pm, free 4-8pm. Intense, but worth it.
Thursday - Gallery of NY Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, 8pm, free. Culture about culture! It's a double dose.
Friday - Museum of Modern Art, 8pm, free 4-8pm. One of the better deals in the bunch. Buyer beware: Fridays are always packed.
Saturday - Guggenheim Museum, 7:45pm, pay what you wish 5:45-7:45pm. When else can you visit the Guggenheim for free?
Sunday - Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame Annex, 8pm, last admission at 7pm, $24.50. Rock out "late night" on a Sunday!
