Japan's ANA airline has launched a rather bizarre campaign to encourage their passengers to pee before they get on board flights, in an effort to conserve fuel and therefore cut carbon emissions. As far as being "green" goes, "holding it" doesn't really save all that much weight. According to All Nippon Airways (ANA) If the average human bladder has the capacity to hold 15oz, and if 150 passengers relieved themselves on board an aircraft, this would amount to about 141 pounds of waste per flight.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather they cut out a seat or two rather than monitor bathroom usage. Airline staff will be present at boarding gates in terminals to ask passengers waiting to fly to relieve themselves before boarding, The Independent reports. The hope is that this experiment will save over five tons of waste in 30 days across the 42 planes in the fleet. The policy began October 1.
