In a bold move, Ryanair is one-upping any other nickel-and-dime fee out there in the airline industry right now. Perhaps spurred on by the billions of dollars the airlines are making with the ubiquitous baggage fees -- reportedly American Airlines and U.S. Airways collected a combined $1.1 billion in bag fees in 2008-- Ryanair is now implementing a fee for online check-in, costing £5 ($7.50) which will soon be the only way to check in.
No matter that online check-in saves a bunch of cash on staff costs, Ryanair is still passing the buck to you, and that's just the least of it, because they're also implementing a £40 ($60) fee for those that don't print out a copy of their boarding pass at home, and they're calling it a "boarding card re-issue fee." That's right. Not only do you have to pay to check in online, but you're expected to print out a copy of your boarding pass and bring it to the airport or you'll get dinged $60. For those of you who don't travel with a printer, this might pose a problem.
