If you were having doubts about Wyclef Jean's bid for the presidency of Haiti, someone much more famous and outspoken than you shares those doubts. Sean Penn, who these days is more activist than actor, let go of some pretty sinister thoughts on CNN last night in regards to The Jean Candidacy (a great title for a political thriller, we think). Penn has adopted the salvation of Haiti as his cause du jour after the devastating earthquake of '10, and he's not taking too kindly to some musician—whose Haitian pride feels like style over substance—swooping in to suddenly try and save the day.

Among Penn's more arresting claims are these: that until now, Jean has been "virtually silent;" that he has been a "non-presence;" that corporate interests are "enamored" with him and "pushing" him to do this; and that Jean showed up in Haiti with a "vulgar entourage of vehicles." The whole thing sounds very conspiracy theory to us, but Sean Penn is in Haiti and we're not. Either way, this election is going to be awesome.
