The above video seems to have finally gotten United Airlines' attention regarding a $3,500 guitar they smashed last year en route from Nova Scotia to Nebraska. Country singer Dave Carroll of the band Sons of Maxwell hopped a plane with his bandmates from Halifax to Omaha by way of Chicago. As the plane unloaded in O'Hare, Dave happens to look out the window in time to witness the baggage handlers tossing around instrument cases like beach balls.

Carroll immediately complained to three flight attendants and was met with disinterest and disregard. Upon his final arrival in Omaha, Dave is not shocked at all to find that the base of his 710 acoustic Taylor guitar has indeed been smashed. Considering he had gigs to get to, Dave did what all musicians do in a pinch -- he made do with what he had. Cut to a week later when he hopped his flight home and made a formal complaint, which was not acknowledged. Over the next several months, Dave called, emailed, and generally tried to get attention paid to his situation, and the best he received was a denial based on the fact that he didn’t "complain in the right place, or at the right time." $1200 later his guitar works, but it isn't what it used to be, and Dave decided that he'd have a little fun at United's expense, in the form of a series of YouTube videos. The first one, posted July 6, has already made some waves, and a spokeswoman for United has said that United loves the song and that it “struck a chord with us, and we’ve contacted him directly to make it right." The groveling phone call is set for today, so we'll see what happens to Dave and his YouTube strategy.
