As bloggers, we wait for a moment like the now-infamous Christian Bale freakout our entire lives. It's got the same seismic-level impact for us that Barack Obama's election had for real journalists. It becomes fodder for endless analysis and crucial debates. When the recording initially leaked, it was all over the Internet in such a dizzying flash that I didn't even bother posting it. When the fallout came -- the remixes, mash-ups, reactions, all that stuff -- I decided to sit back and wait. Well, it's been four days since Bale became an online immortal, and I haven't written one thing about it. It's time I get my jollies (and get this thing out of my system). After the jump, one breathless roundup of Christian Bale freaking the fuck out.
I came across this Today show video today, where Matt, Meredith and Al get their crew in front of the camera to ask them, "What would happen if we treated you like that?" They listen to the tape with the F-bombs bleeped out -- like eating pizza with the cheese ripped off.
How about this reenactment of the incident featuring Stephen Colbert as Bale and Steve Martin as the other guy? Steve nails it. Both of them.
There's the official Christian Bale meltdown T-shirt. A better slogan they could not have chosen.
By now you've all heard "Bale Out," the tantrum remix by L.A. DJ RevoLucian. He's got a Sarah Palin remix on there that's pretty dated, but pretty good.
The Bale vs. O'Reilly mash-up was inevitable, but what about this one of Bale vs. Lily Tomlin?
On the ingenious Christian Bale Soundboard, his rant becomes compartmentalized into separate sound effects.
Entertainment Weekly honored the occasion by compiling a list of other celebrity meltdowns.
In this clip, a Warner Bros. PR flack responds to the tirade and lovingly refers to Bale as the "Welsh Nightmare."
One of my favorites is a sound-edit of the interrogation scene in The Dark Knight. Like the rest of us, the Joker thinks it's hysterical.
This guy memorized and reenacted the whole thing.
Fanboy Grand Wizard Harry Knowles was one of the few to defend Bale's outburst, as was an assistant director who now famously called it "the most emotional scene in the movie."
Bale's mum however, was not impressed.
God, that felt good.
