Guinness Uses Sex to Sell

By

Ben Barna

imageThis Guinness ad has been deemed "racy" and "controversial" by the online consortium. I started watching it, and thought, no big deal. A bottle of beer balances on a girl’s back whilst having sex. Then at about the 38-second mark, it all became clear. Then at the 49-second mark, it became clear again. Enjoy.

IAI Pulls Ford’s Finger

By

Nick Haramis

IAI Pulls Ford’s Finger The Italian Advertising Institute recently banned this ad for Tom Ford shades, reports Radar. It's already run in a few mags, apparently, and the IAI let slide even racier images of junk-clutching and misogynistic laundering. Says the IAI of the shot, "[It] goes beyond acceptable limits for advertising aimed at the general public."

Absolut Awkward

Absolut Awkward A new controversial Absolut vodka ad is stirring up sentiments many Americans would prefer to keep south of the border. The ad shows a map of a pre-1848 America, when Mexico’s border stretched into the nether regions of our fair land (picture is left), with a slogan that reads, “In an Absolut World.” The ad was never intended for the American market, but media vultures picked at it long enough to piss off a lot of people. Absolut’s website has been inundated with over 1,000 angry comments, one person going so far as to pour the remainder of their Absolut vodka down the sink (huge score for the sink!).

One can imagine Woody Allen’s young bride Soon-Yi Previn on the back of Vice magazine, her no-fuss Asian blandness hawking American Apparel knee-highs and a turtlenecks, but not Woody himself. However, AA has erected billboards featuring Allen dressed as a Hassidic Jew from a scene in Annie Hall. But Woody’s always been more of a hepcat than a hipster, so he’s decided to file a $10 million suit in a U.S. District court in Manhattan against Dov Charney and his AA army. Allen claims they never contacted him about using his image and finds them “especially egregious and damaging.” We still don’t get what Woody Allen dressed as a Hassidic Jew has to do with selling skinny jeans, but that’s probably the point.
