Anna Wintour Takes Page from Obama’s Playbook

Anna Wintour Takes Page from Obama’s Playbook President Obama may have just invited Vogue's infamous editor-in-chief to join his national Committee on the Arts and Humanities, but it seems Wintour is looking to Obama's own campaign for a few tips as well. Specifically, Wintour is planning on copying Obama's digital marketing techniques. She and Vogue publisher Tom Florio have apparently hired Blue State Digital, "the progressive-oriented online consultancy that famously created my.barackobama.com," says Jezebel. They'll be "focusing on outreach to readers and subscribers.

Anna Wintour to Advise Obama on the Arts

Anna Wintour to Advise Obama on the Arts Fresh off of celebrating her 60th birthday, Anna Wintour has been handpicked by Barack Obama to join the national Committee on the Arts and Humanities. Already members of the illustrious 24-person committee: Sarah Jessica Parker, Forest Whitaker, Edward Norton, Yo-Yo Ma, and Teresa Heinz Kerry. According to Women's Wear Daily, Wintour "has gotten close to the Obama camp through cohosting a fund-raiser to honor Michelle Obama during her husband’s presidential campaign and featuring the First Lady on the cover of Vogue." Smooth move, Anna.

‘Vogue’ Editor Can’t Stop Anorexic Models from Showing Up, After All

‘Vogue’ Editor Can’t Stop Anorexic Models from Showing Up, After All "They have to be a little thinner than you and I because you always photograph a little fatter." Words of wisdom from Vogue fave Grace Coddington just as the holidays near. But this isn't a reminder from Coddington to put down the fork and do the head-tilt-turned-body-pose for holiday event pics taken by Patrick McMullan; this is Coddington's way of explaining how model anorexia comes to be. "Because they're kids, they take it too far, and they can't regulate their lives, and next thing you know they're anorexic, and it is tragic.” Her remarks come off the ripple-wave that the firing at Ralph Lauren created, a situation Coddington does not chide Lauren for. Instead, she thinks Ralph Lauren is getting too much bad publicity because most models at Ralph Lauren are not super skinny, and this is an isolated incident.

Next New York Fashion Week: More of the Same

Next New York Fashion Week: More of the Same Despite the fact that Fashion Week will soon be officially leaving its longtime stomping grounds at Bryant Park (come September 2010), next season there will be numerous consistencies with this past season. First off, Milk Studios' playing host to younger designers' shows is here to stay. At least for the next four seasons, that is. "We’re committed to Milk for the next two years," Estée Lauder Group president John Demsey recently told The Cut. "He says that M.A.C. [the main sponsor at Milk] will also be at Lincoln Center -- but backstage, not as a sponsor," New York adds.

Did Anna Wintour Advise Lady Gaga Against Going Pantless?

Did Anna Wintour Advise Lady Gaga Against Going Pantless? One can only imagine how a rendezvous between Lady Gaga and Anna Wintour might go. But were I to guess what exactly the pop star was doing in (to quote The September Issue) the Pope of fashion's office earlier this month, I'd wager that lack of pants was one topic of discussion. Outfitted in a Philip Treacy hat "with Vogue written on it," Gaga stopped by Wintour's offices mid-Fashion Week. Considering Lady Gaga's looks of late, it's clear she's not only embracing more high-end designers (Marc Jacobs, whose SS10 show she attended, for one), she's also more often than not covering her crotch (on-stage performances not included). Could Wintour be to thank/blame for Gaga dressing more ladylike? If the woman can make the likes of Andre Leon Talley and Oprah lose weight, I'd imagine she can put a stop to no-pants.

Stalking Anna Wintour at London Fashion Week

Stalking Anna Wintour at London Fashion Week With Anna Wintour doing the rounds in London, does that mean New Yorkers can unfasten their girdles and step into sweatpants? No? Okay. Regardless, the Vogue queen has filled up her diary, letting neither McKinsey cuts nor potential power-plays distract her from her duties as America's top fashion ambassadress. This is the first time since 2007 that Wintour has returned to her homeland for LFW. A possible breakdown of Wintour's likely agenda follows. A less coherent travelogue can be tracked here, obviously.

Extreme Cleavage All The Rage

Extreme Cleavage All The Rage Refinery 29 makes note today of a trend that swept New York Fashion Week runways: extreme cleavage. From Vena Cava and Altuzarra, to Badgley Mischka, Charlotte Ronson, and Cushnie et Ochs, low-plunging necklines were everywhere you looked. And the look hasn't just been popping up on catwalks. Keri Wilson showed off serious cleavage at MTV's recent Video Awards show in NYC. And L'Uomo Vogue editor Giovanna Battaglia was spotted doing the same at a NYFW exhibition party for Richard Hambleton (which was curated by fellow editrix Carine Roitfeld's son, Vladimir).

Anna Wintour Bites Back

Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour appeared on David Letterman's Late Show last night in one of the most widely Tivo'd fashion happenings since Michelle Obama's Inaugural Ball dress debut. For anyone who has seen The September Issue, the newly released documentary following Wintour, her cohorts and minions alike as they put together the September 2007 edition of the rag, the appearance on Letterman reads much like an extension of the movie. Wintour remains poised, presents herself as sharp, and somehow sympathetic. And, most notably, she takes the opportunity to bite back at Maureen Dowd's seething Sunday column in the New York Times, which referred to Wintour as The Sun King, an extraterrestrial, and Cruella de Vil-like.

A Swan Song & Anna Wintour MIA from Couture Week

A Swan Song & Anna Wintour MIA from Couture Week Paris has been abuzz these last few days, ever since haute couture's biannual Fashion Week kicked off. It's a monumental season for the industry, seeing as it marks the final show from sartorial master Christian Lacroix, whose namesake fashion house filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. Also generating talk in Paris and beyond: the presence of Christian Dior himself at John Galliano's show for the couture house. Not to mention Givenchy's sweeping, evocative collection has received rave reviews. But the real headline-grabber is a certain infamous editrix's absence from the shows.
