Spring Sunglasses: Alexander Wang, Olsen Twins, DVF, Albert Maysles

Spring Sunglasses: Alexander Wang, Olsen Twins, DVF, Albert Maysles Spring 2010 is the season to launch a sunglasses line. That is, if you're Alexander Wang, the Olsen twins, or Diane Von Furstenberg. While Wang showcased his premiere line of specs on his football-inspired SS10 runway at New York Fashion Week; the Olsens just released images of their soon-to-debut sunglasses, which they created in collaboration with seasoned design house Linda Farrow. Now DVF is adding the accessory into the brand's repertoire for spring. Even though images have yet to surface, the company's Facebook page confirms that the designer (who was recently mugged in Madrid, but fortunately ended up safe and sound) is thisclose to her eponymous eyewear launch: "Just wrapped our eyewear shoot ... stay tuned for behind the scenes photos (and the eyewear launch in November!)."

What Topshop, The Sartorialist & McQueen Have In Common

Topshoppers everywhere can rejoice as today is the day that Christopher Kane's wares hit the store's racks (the mirror leggings, mesh sandals and crocodile tee and dress are bound to be especially huge hits). But the mega retailer also has another installation in the works that's worth celebrating. The Topshop Edit Boutique, which first debuted in February, is back for the next 16 weeks. Essentially the shop works like an art exhibit with curated works, but the artwork in question includes clothing and accessories from designers like KTZ, White Trumpet and NAKKNA. While the boutique will set up shop in Topshop's UK and NYC stores, the latter will feature a fraction of the designs to be featured across the pond.

Crystal Renn: A Plus-Sized Model’s Pocket-Sized Guide to New York

Crystal Renn: A Plus-Sized Model’s Pocket-Sized Guide to New York Crystal Renn used to be starving. When she came to New York City for the first time, she didn't head to Serendipity or grab a slice from Grimaldi's like most bright eyed newbies do; she had lettuce, plain, from a nameless salad bar in the theater district. She lived in the greatest city in the world, too weak and obsessed with being thin to enjoy it. In her new book, Hungry, Renn describes her world before and after she decided to let go of oppressive dieting to become one of the most successful plus-sized models in the world. She pours over her struggles with body image, her industry, and the stigma of labels within the modeling world, but she still won't talk about that first slice of New York City pizza. Today, Renn walks the same city streets, but she lives in a totally different universe: one where she can have a beer in Williamsburg and buy Size-12 leggings without feeling as though her waist or food is "sacrificing chicness or quality." Here are the places around town Crystal Renn enjoys, now that she's truly living life.

Gentlemen: Your Fall Fashion Wishlist

Gentlemen: Your Fall Fashion Wishlist Men's Style.com has published its Buyers Club Guide for 2009 fashion, with the country's 14 most influential store owners (from Barneys and Bloomingdale's to San Francisco's The Archive, Los Angeles' Confederacy, and New York's Odin) offering their lists of gents' must-have items for fall. The 87-slide-long grouping is more than enough to whet your appetite for full-on sartorial consumption; fortunately, nearly all of the stores featured have online shops. As for the overarching trend, buyers are without a doubt leaning towards updated basics for fall. From classic trenches and a studded motorcycle jacket, to flannels, five-pocket jeans and a great all-weather overcoat from Patrik Ervell, the clothes as a whole suggest a distinct ruggedness.

Moises de la Renta: Fashion Scion Gone Solo

Moises de la Renta: Fashion Scion Gone Solo Moises de la Renta could very well be a reality television icon by now. With Fashion God Oscar de la Renta as his father and a velvet rope lifestyle, he certainly fits the I-wish-I-was-him credentials. But Moises opted for a real (and respected) career in design/photography. And if his recently launched, painfully hip website for his bad ass womenswear fashion line MDLR is any indication, his career choice was wise. We met up to chit-chat for what I thought was drinks at the Thompson Hotel, but to my surprise, I was greeted by the man about town in a room full of models getting ready for their close-ups in an MDLR photo shoot featured on Whatswear.com. It was all lights, cameras, and action, mixed with plenty of cigarettes, blaring background noise of the sub-par performances of MJ's classics from the previously aired BET Awards, sexy leather biker jackets complete with gilded MDLR zippers -- and, in true rock star form, an Iggy Pop vs. David Bowie debate.

Patron Saint of Style: Lady Gaga. You know how you look at her with both interest and disdain, but also mentally note her couture for a future Halloween reference? That's exactly the kind of costume you should be prepared to rock here, where fashion is about fun.

Simon Doonan’s Palatial Gay Fantasia

Simon Doonan’s Palatial Gay Fantasia This week's edition of the New Yorker takes a look inside the home of Barneys' inimitable creative director Simon Doonan. Doonan's Nasty: My Family and Other Glamorous Varmints, was adapted for television by the BBC last fall as a series called Beautiful People, and it recently debuted stateside on the Logo network. Right off the bat, he describes his digs as a "palatial gay fantasia." The grandiose description, though over the top, isn't surprising given the fact that Doonan recently married his partner of 14 years, interior designer Jonathan Adler. Not to mention the abode in question is outfitted with garden gnomes, a paisley ping-pong table, and a "burlap bust of Napoleon" in the fireplace.

Good Night Mr. Lewis

Mr. Hush Speaks

imageNightlife is getting bigger -- it can no longer be looked at as a 10pm to 4am sport. Promoters and their followings are no longer content with just late-night revelry, as brunches at fancy restaurants and roof decks and pool parties service the chic set now that summer is here. Eventually promoters will control the lives of their patrons 24/7, or someone else will. The Hamptons are doing great despite dire predictions -- but it's still mostly a money-losing proposition for those pulling the strings. Owner and promoter types feel the necessity to control their clientele, especially the hot girls, lest some other promoter type entice them away with visions of sugarplum fairies or more Grey Goose. It’s day- and nightlife, and as entrepreneurs start to embrace this concept, more swag and privileges will accrue to the swagged and privileged.

YSL: Old Dog, New Eco-Chic Tricks

imageOn the coattails of the launch of his menswear for women collection called Unisex, YSL's Stefano Pilati is dipping his sartorial toes into the eco-friendly fashion pool. Come June 8, the French fashion house will introduce New Vintage, "a capsule line of classic Saint Laurent pieces (the bustier dress, the tailored jacket, the trench coat) cut from the unused cloth of past collections," says the New York Times' Karin Nelson. The collection will be sold exclusively at Barneys (and is surely at least in part the brainchild of Julie Gilhart, Barney's revered buyer notorious for her eco-friendly fashionable pursuits).
