Morning After ‘Twilight’: Robert Pattinson Drinks Deep at Beatrice Inn

Morning After ‘Twilight’: Robert Pattinson Drinks Deep at Beatrice Inn So, Twilight. Thoughts? Are you still in deeply in love with Edward Cullen? Someone I know saw it three times this weekend (or was it four?). Someone else I know wept. Others saw Robert Pattinson celebrating his film's dazzling opening weekend at Beatrice Inn, wasted and cheerfully straddling a banquette. The film is already such a smash that number two in the series is already in the works. So even though reviews were lukewarm, the Twilight train is barreling forward. Except I got this disconcerting text on Saturday night from a coworker and devout fan of the books.

Desperate Drinking in Desperate Times

By

Foster Barna

Desperate Drinking in Desperate Times Telling your story from beyond the grave is a bitch. You’ve gotta sign scrolls of release forms, and be put through an infernal vetting process that culminates with a hellish (it’s really the only word I can think of) interview with Beelzebub himself. “We musn’t meddle with the order of things,” he told me. No idea what he meant, but his serpentine voice repulsed me, so I nodded my head and million-dollar-smiled him, and here I am at my old job, in one final performance, to tell you how I lost my life to this shitty economy (and alcohol).

Moby: “I Don’t Advocate Sobriety for Anyone Who Can Drink Successfully”

By

Ben Barna

Moby: “I Don’t Advocate Sobriety for Anyone Who Can Drink Successfully” Who would've thunk that demure electronic music superstar Moby was a self-proclaimed raging alcoholic? We spoke to him to talk about his Last Night Remixed album, but somehow talk degenerated into drunk Lower East Side tomfoolery, timing cocaine use just right, and why he's just not that into the debauchery at the Box.

Industry Insiders: Reka Nyari, Genie with a Bottle

By

Tari Ervin

Industry Insiders: Reka Nyari, Genie with a Bottle Foreign-born bottle-service diva Reka Nyari on why men with ties buy $5,000 bottles at clubs, inventing a nightlife resume to avoid the pole, and parlaying industry connects into a career in photography.

Where do you go out? I go to Beatrice or Rose Bar. I also will still go to the bottle service places to see my friends. A lot of my friends still work in the business. They work at Cielo, Bijoux, and Marquee, so I will go to see them. I also will go with friends to Schiller’s and chill and have wine. A friend has a table at Bungalow 8 every Thursday, so I’ll go sometimes.

Good Night Mr. Lewis: The Haves and Have-Nots

By

Steve Lewis

Good Night Mr. Lewis: The Haves and Have-Nots The beginning of the recession for most clubs was around six months ago, but many have seen an even steeper decline in business in the last couple of months. Clubs on the fringe are now starting to fall apart, one here, one there. Manor, Dirty Disco, and a half a dozen others are either done, almost done, or getting redone to be something new and of course, fabulous. As the recession deepens the clubs will be divided sharply into the Haves and the Haves-Nots. For 1Oak, nothing has changed; their smart, affluent crowd spends thousands like most spend dimes. For 1Oak, the economic downturn is dinner conversation or an inconvenience. Although they aren’t completely immune, the money they spend on the night is a relative pittance.

Industry Insiders: Erik Foss, Lord of Lit

Industry Insiders: Erik Foss, Lord of Lit Lit co-owner Erik Foss talks about his art, his new bar in Philly with the best name ever, and why the city needs less yuppie cocksuckers.

Favorite Hangs: Max Fish! Max Fish! Max Fish! I also like Beatrice Inn because my bro’s Paul Sevigny and Andre [Saraiva] own it. It's the first place I DJed. I dig Motor City because they are real there. Otherwise I don't drink anymore, so my bar days are kinda over. Santos' Party House is sick too. I love Spencer Sweeney, and he's a dope-as- fuck artist!

Good Night Mr. Lewis: The Southside Boys, Part 2

By

Steve Lewis

Good Night Mr. Lewis: The Southside Boys, Part 2 I am deeply honored to be nominated by PAPER magazine for best nightlife blog. However, having already been honored as best nightlife blog by the Village Voice for 2008, I think it’s best that I withdraw and throw my support to another candidate. I have noticed the other bloggers nominated are campaigning, and feel I must spend my own energies campaigning for Barack Obama. I think the problems facing America far outweigh our little scene. I urge all my loyal readers to vote for Barack for President and Rachelle of Guest of a Guest for best blog. I would also like to nominate Brittany Mendenhall of Chichi212.com for Vice-Blogger. Thank you, and enjoy Part 2 of the conversation between myself, my editor Fernando Gil, and the Southside boys Anthony Martignetti and James Willis. (See Part 1 here.)

I’m very much enthralled by the design for Southside; I went downstairs, and we talked about how you wanted to make it fun and airy; not so dark.
Anthony Martignetti: There’s a huge resurgence in the past five years in New York of speakeasy looks, where everything is hidden and quiet and dark, and a lot of them go down very well. A lot of them had done less well over the years, when a lot of people have started ripping off a lot of the small speakeasies. But then there’s the big New York City nightclub, and I just don’t think there’s anything in between, that I’ve seen.

Lissy Trullie Takes Our Pop Quiz

By

Vanita Salisbury

Lissy Trullie Takes Our Pop Quiz Earlier this year, Elle magazine featured Lissy Trullie in a black-and-white (save for a shock of red hair) spread on punk couture. It's no surprise they would use her. With doe eyes, downtown rocker-chic style and legs that won't quit, the DJ/indie musician is admittedly easy on the eyes. But then, she opens her mouth and husky soul pours out – as well as swaggering personality. A regular DJ at the Beatrice Inn, the D.C. native began performing with her band a little over a year and a half ago, and with her music—retro, dancey, and definitively New York--she's been in high demand. Last week she played four CMJ gigs, including a packed BlackBook party at Le Royale, but she took some time out to opine in our internet questionnaire.

Industry Insiders: Nick Cohen, DJ Sneaker Pimp

By

Fernando Cwilich Gil

Industry Insiders: Nick Cohen, DJ Sneaker Pimp Nick Cohen, DJ and owner of Upper Echelon Shoes, punches the club clock, DJs sans shirt for the downtown celebs, and builds his upscale sneaker brand -- all to avoid those dreaded fluorescent office lights.

How was Los Angeles?
Really good. We Just did press and celebrity seating and met with stylists and editors [for Upper Echelon Shoes].

You’re the resident DJ Thursday nights at Southside. Other than Southside, what other spots do you like to hit up?
Because I have spent so many hours in nightclubs, if I am going out, I am going out. I like 1Oak, Tuesdays especially. I’ll go in and do a small guest [DJing] set. Just with a couple of friends, I’ll do something there. The music is always pretty good. And then Beatrice Inn. I logged many hours in the Beatrice Inn, smoke in my eyes.

Industry Insiders: DJ Jus Ske, Master of Western Decks Mr. West co-owner and DJ Jus Ske talks about blowing up, speeding up, and building up.

Favorite Hangs: When I'm in Tokyo, I love Feria. It's a very high-energy, New York-style club abroad. David Guetta's "F*** Me, I'm Famous" parties are always insane, and I love those. When I'm in NYC, you can usually find me at Mr. West, 1Oak, Beatrice Inn, or Rose Bar.
