GoldBar Turns Two

GoldBar Turns Two A BlackBook favorite NYC nightlife hotspot, GoldBar—the opulent, infamous Nolita lounge—celebrates two years tonight, with owners Jamie Mullholland, Jayma Cardosa and Rob McKinley leading the festivities. Even if you've stumbled in late-night, lured by the hum of music from behind the decadent front doors, heavy-draped velvet curtains, and near constant stream of onlookers and lines outside, you'd remember the place. With walls covered in gold skulls, gold chains separating the bar from the dance floor, and our favorite DJ's situated in the semi-secret booth in the back, Goldbar always delivers a memorable night, and lives on triumphantly after two good years.

BlackBook’s Recon Mission to Harrah’s Atlantic City

BlackBook’s Recon Mission to Harrah’s Atlantic City Recently BlackBook scouts (the entire staff, coincidentally) were deployed on a mission of high importance: board the newly minted ACES train at Penn Station on a direct course to Atlantic City. Upon arrival, infiltrate Harrah’s Resort and Casino for a covert recon mission. Eat, drink, gamble, spend. Is this sprawling ode to hedonism worthy of BlackBook’s next blowout?

So Long, Interns

So Long, Interns And so, another crop of BlackBook interns sails off into the sunset. Sadly, nothing from their final goodbye bash made it onto the Tumblr we so generously provided for just that purpose. Nevertheless, thanks kids, and we're real sorry our generation(s) broke the economy and all. We'll still write you a killer recommendation!

The BlackBook Interns Are Tumbling

imageHere in the BlackBook offices, we have an entirely unfeasible number of summer interns -- not that each one isn't a special snowflake of enthusiasm and talent. But how to capture, record, and disseminate that boundless energy? How to let the rest of the world know the singular experience of interning at BlackBook? And most importantly, how to jump-start another intern-driven story? With a blog, and more specifically a Tumblr. Thus was born the BlackBook Intern Tumblr, where all our minions are free to praise their (nonpaying) jobs, pontificate on the glories of catching a blurry glimpse of Maggie Gyllenhaal, and complain about how they got kicked out of our last party. We'll occasionally publish highlights here, but over there, it's all unmoderated, unedited intern shenanigans. Go read, follow, and reblog. They ask for so little, really.

The Highs and Lows of Interning

The Highs and Lows of Interning Teen Vogue has given voice to the cogs that make their office run. Their website comes with an intern blog, where the coffee-getters and hanger-untanglers can voice what it’s like to be an unpaid wrangler in two of the most competitive fields (fashion and publishing), in the most competitive city on Earth. One sweet young thing, Becca Dennettt, aims to dispel myths and tell you what it’s really like working at a fashion magazine. And since I’m wrought for any original ideas, I’ll just swipe Becca’s. As a former intern at BlackBook, here are my answers to the Becca Dennett survey.
