Leave it to Alexander Wang to turn a basic braid into a bona fide beauty trend. To top off the designer's football-inspired, transparency-friendly looks for SS10, there were also long, luscious braids befitting Buttercup, The Princess Bride, and, not surprisingly, both celebrities and fashion magazines are into them. "It may not be spring, but it's already time to copy Alexander Wang's spring 2010 loose, unraveled side-braid. Rachel McAdams rocked the look at the premiere of Sherlock Holmes in London last night, while [model] Kasuia Struss also wore a Wang-ish do for the January issue of Vogue," says The Cut. (Both were a more flattering take on the style than Blake Lively's attempt at the Emmy's.)

Of the five names being tossed around as potential candidates to star opposite Ryan Reynolds in the big-screen adaptation of Green Lantern, the most sensible woman for the job is obviously Inglourious Basterds' Diane Kruger. In fact, here's a five-pronged argument for why casting agents need no longer entertain Blake Lively, Jennifer Garner, Eva Green, or that broad from Felicity, when Diane effing Kruger runs circles around all of them.

Rumor has it Blake Lively -- the Gossip Girl star and former Vogue cover girl -- is extending her reach with regard to the fashion industry. Specifically, she may soon be playing muse to none other than Victoria Beckham. Whether it's the hair (which the New York Times claims is the new "Rachel") or maybe her unique style (she doesn't have a stylist and still has managed to land quite a bit of praise for her wardrobe choices), there's no doubt Lively's sartorial star is rising. As recently as October, Lively was seen sporting a VB design for SS10 on the red carpet; and, now, apparently Mrs. Beckham herself has taken notice.

Refinery 29 makes note today of a trend that swept New York Fashion Week runways: extreme cleavage. From Vena Cava and Altuzarra, to Badgley Mischka, Charlotte Ronson, and Cushnie et Ochs, low-plunging necklines were everywhere you looked. And the look hasn't just been popping up on catwalks. Keri Wilson showed off serious cleavage at MTV's recent Video Awards show in NYC. And L'Uomo Vogue editor Giovanna Battaglia was spotted doing the same at a NYFW exhibition party for Richard Hambleton (which was curated by fellow editrix Carine Roitfeld's son, Vladimir).

Whether you watched last night's Emmys on a dusty television set or on a shady internet stream prone to buffering and choppy playback (21st century chic, wave of the future, etc.), you probably noticed that TV's landmark three hour salute to TV seemed perkier than years past. And while a number of harsh elements threatened to barrel us to boredom -- like the dual monotone of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Patricia Arquette ("LOL! We both play mediums!" cried JLoHew as we eyed that Ambien hungrily) and Jeff Probst's acceptance speech (seriously -- over Padma Lakshmi?), the night was easily redeemed by over a dozen people. And one of them didn't even need to actually be present for her act of valiance.

Unless you were Slumdog Millionaire, 30 Rock, a little-seen HBO flick about our second President, and Kate Winslet, your wins at last night's Golden Globes were at best negligible to nonexistent. But judging by the place settings at the round tables, at least everyone got great eats -- and contrary to popular belief, great swag! But as with all of these black-tie, gold-statue affairs, the night was definitely not without its non-winners too. So let's take some time out of our dreary Monday to point and jeer at them, because the losers were just too obvious.

So yes, The Dark Knight premiered last night in New York, with the appropriate level of somberly dressed stardom in attendance. Giorgio Armani may be dressing Bruce Wayne, but starlets Blake Lively, Lauren Conrad, and Maggie Gyllenhaal chose to walk the black carpet in ... well, lots of black. But it's fun black! Not like scary black, or depressing black. But still totally, you know, respectful of Heath Ledger's genius and stuff.

Most of the time, after a drawn-out night in New York, we come to work on time, pulled together—a little tired, but kempt. Today is not one of those days. The city was busy last night. Kanye played 1Oak, the MoMA hosted an event for the release of HBO's Recount—stay tuned for our candid interview with actress Laura Dern—while GQ and Stoli Vodka threw down in the West Village. We didn't make any of these.
