Carine Roitfeld’s Influential Style

Carine Roitfeld’s Influential Style The inimitable Carine Roitfeld, editor-in-chief of Paris Vogue, is considered by many in the fashion industry and beyond to be a bona fide fashion icon. The editor, whose stick-straight, just-past-the-shoulder 'do and slim silhouettes combo hasn't changed in years, is recognizable a few dozen feet away. However, Roitfeld's countless fashion followers may be surprised to hear the source of her style inspiration: designer Tom Ford. He "was pushing me to do the dark eye make-up, to wear high heels and to keep things very simple and lean," Roitfeld recently told the Times.

Paris Fashion Week: The New French ‘Vogue’

Paris Fashion Week: The New French ‘Vogue’ The glorious and glamorous new issue of French Vogue, shot by wonder team Mert& Marcus and styled by the genius Carine Roitfeld, speaks to a time when power suits ruled and jewelry was bigger than a woman's hand. Such were the days of dynasty, androgyny, and pure decadence. The issue pays homage to all that is (new) and was (vintage) Chanel and manages to capture the allure that Coco Chanel herself once infused into this legendary house. Cover model Iris Strubegger looks so incredibly alluring and staggeringly powerful, I can't but turn the page without having felt the power from within.

CNN to Spotlight Carine Roitfeld

imageAmerican television can’t seem to get enough of the world’s top fashion magazine editors. Vogue, Marie Claire, and Elle have all spawned their own Devil Wears Prada-themed reality television shows, but now it seems news networks are looking to cash in on the fashion-as-(potentially)-fascinating-television-phenomenon. 60 Minutes' upcoming special on Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour isn’t the only journalistic expose of the fashion industry slated to hit a television near you. French Vogue's Carine Roitfeld will be profiled by her own TV special (currently spearheaded by CNN).

Industry Insiders: Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, Nouveaux Lensman

Industry Insiders: Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, Nouveaux Lensman Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld is the founder of Feedback Productions, prince to the Paris Voguette throne, and an emerging name in the New York art scene. This week, Roitfeld curates the work of three photographers -- P.C. Valmorbida, David Mushegain, and Salim Langatta -- at Collective Hardware. The opening event, sponsored by Louis Vuitton and Terrazas, attracted high-profile celebutantes and close friends of the artists. The crowd looked something like: Vladimir's sister Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and (fashion icon) mother Carine Roitfeld, both Hiltons, Natalia Vodianova, Gisele Bundchen, Mary-Kate Olsen, Stavros Niarchos, Mila Jovovich, Lily Donaldson, Zoe Kravitz, Hilary Rhoda, and Cory Kennedy. Post-party, the A-listers moved uptown and took Indochine back to its glory days. After the jump, Vladimir expands on his passions, the lack of sibling rivalry in his high-profile fam, and enjoying a glass of vino.

Kanye West Champions Carine Roitfeld’s Freshness

Kanye West Champions Carine Roitfeld’s Freshness Urban Dictionary describes a Fresh Kid as "someone in to the whole street culture, 90's hip hop scene, underground rap, graffiti, skateboarding, and rare sneaker collection. So it is with great perplexity that Kanye West, himself fresher than Nobu sushi, has appointed French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld as one. For all Mrs. Roitfeld has accomplished (making French Vogue an international harbinger of effortless cool, giving birth to a New York socialite), she certainly isn't "fresh."

Newhouse Quashing Rumors of Wintour’s ‘Vogue’ Departure

imageMon dieu, can it be? Mais oui, says Gawker, who yesterday broke the news that life may indeed soon be imitating The Devil Wears Prada. Rumor has it French Vogue’s editrix extraordinaire Carine Roitfeld may have her perpetually kohl-lined eyes on Anna Wintour’s position at American Vogue, plus Condé Nast chief's Si Newhouse’s approval to boot. Given the recent rumors of Wintour’s imminent departure, not to mention the poor performance of the rag and its offshoots (Men’s Vogue, Vogue Living, and Fashion Rocks), the shake-up seems absolutely plausible. Or ... is it?
