She came of age as the quietly brooding Angela Chase in TV’s cult series My So-Called Life. Now, after years spent turning Juliet on her head, romancing Steve Martin, dodging tabloid scandals and finding true love in the fine form of fiancé Hugh Dancy, Claire Danes has finally come into her own. (Check out a pair of exclusive bonus photos for this photo shoot.) On the eve of her bachelorette blow-out, the stage beauty, acting powerhouse and diehard New Yorker gets down to business—and her skivvies—while inviting Ray Rogers into the private world of America’s most grounded leading lady.
If a diamond is girl’s best friend, than Cartier's Patiala necklace may very well be her soulmate. The necklace, executed for Maharajah of Patiala in 1928, contains 2,930 diamonds for a total weight of 962.25 carats. Part of the Cartier Dome collection at Art Basel, the Patiala necklace oozes diamonds, rubies, and an unrivaled wow factor. Penny-pinchers fret not: David Lynch’ seven minute “Diamonds. Gold and Dreams” presentation commissioned for the event will make you feel like a million bucks.
Recession schmession. At the Art Basel events in Miami, the champagne is still flowing like Fiji water. From the rumor that UBS would not tone down their annual dinner and gala -- even amid scandal speculation -- to the abundance of caviar on hors d'ouvre trays, it all smells like decadence to me. Cartier hosted a preview of “Diamonds, Gold and Dreams,” an approximately seven-minute film by David Lynch projected inside the Cartier Dome in the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens. The transfixing film features cascading diamonds and Cartier jewels on 180 degrees of ceiling projection with an equally mesmerizing score. It played once every hour, leaving partygoers hungry for more. The Dome, built specifically for this event and film, took two weeks to construct and will be disassembled directly after Basel.
As the city inches toward a state of depression, holiday bashes are getting canceled faster than the stock market plummets, leaving city dwellers with fewer options for communal revelry. But today, Cartier lit up Fifth Avenue with some much-needed holiday cheer as Kelly Ripa and hubby Mark Consuelos came out to host the 29th anniversary of the Cartier Holiday Bow celebration at the Cartier Mansion. Maybe New Yorkers can’t afford to fund their fancy holiday festivities, but in times of despair, it’s more important than ever to maintain old-timey traditions, right? According to Cartier exec Frederic de Narp, “important” doesn’t even begin to describe it. “It’s essential, it’s not important, its essential. Cartier was born 162 years ago. Recessions and downturns, Cartier went through so many of them, but the holiday season is the holiday season."
Cartier chose “Music” as the theme of its third annual Love Day, celebrated yesterday in the U.S. This year's Love Day sees Cartier launch the new Love Charity bracelet with its Love Charity Ambassadors. To tie everything together, the Love Charity Ambassadors are musicians. Ashanti, Common, Emmy Rossum, Eve, Fergie, Good Charlotte, Hilary Duff and Janet Jackson each support different charities in addition to Action Against Hunger, which Cartier supports vigorously.
