Winona Ryder Bites Back

Winona Ryder Bites Back "What makes someone an icon? Is Nelson Mandela an icon? Is Václav Havel an icon? Is the alien from Alien: Resurrection an icon? I don’t know what the requirements are.” Winona Ryder pauses to consider the well-oiled word from the far reaches of the lobby lounge at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. Her cap is pulled down to hide the face of an Edward Gorey beauty rendered in chalk. She sits on her tiny feet as if to keep them warm.

Los Angeles: Top 10 Places to Get Devoured by a Cougar

Los Angeles: Top 10 Places to Get Devoured by a CougarStone Rose Lounge (West Hollywood) – The East Coast version of this star-lit bar is NY’s reigning cougar palace. This is similar, except the furniture—and the cougars—are a burnt orange.
The Ivy (Beverly Hills) – Studio bigwigs are more than thrilled to let their bored wives run wild on the company expense account, which means lunch (and dessert) at this Hollywood clubhouse is just a “How you doin’” away.
Ecco Ultra Lounge (Hollywood) - The only thing that trumps a regular cougar is one that drives a Prius. Savor the ride home from this eco-friendly supper club, because it’s about to get dirty.

Charlize Theron on ‘Vogue,’ Marisa Tomei’s One of the Boys

Charlize Theron on ‘Vogue,’ Marisa Tomei’s One of the Boys Vogue's September issue cover may have leaked and, if so, actress Charlize Theron has landed the coveted title of cover girl for the fashion magazine's biggest annual issue. Although that's figuratively speaking of course, as this year's ad sales are the lowest Vogue has seen in years (meaning the issue is 200+ pages thinner than the infamous September issue documented in the soon-to-be-released RJ Cutler documentary). Sadly, little feels special about the image itself; it's the same close-up of an actress from the waist up in a formal gown we've seen from Vogue for years.

Industry Insiders: Larry Poston, Room Service Provider

Industry Insiders: Larry Poston, Room Service Provider Larry Poston officially opened the West Village resto Hotel Griffou with business partner Johnny Swet on July 1. Poston made his name in New York restaurant circles as a manager at Pastis and the Waverly Inn, and Swet gained his hospitality know-how at Balthazar and Freemans. Most recently occupying the 9th Street space was notorious speakeasy Marylou’s, but the name of the new joint is after the original, French 1870s occupants. The modern dining rooms are themed as a salon, library, and artist's studio with a French-inspired classic cuisine menu. Poston gives us an inside look at the new spot.

Hell’s Angel: Devilish Sweetheart Evan Rachel Wood

Hell’s Angel: Devilish Sweetheart Evan Rachel Wood Evan Rachel Wood doesn’t fear the edge—it’s her natural habitat, onscreen and in real life. Uncomfortable, Lolita-esque situations? Check. Nudity? Check. Drugs? Um… Bisexuality? Naturally. “I love me some girls, man!” Wood states unequivocally, sidling into a back booth at a sleek pan-Asian bistro near her home on Los Angeles’ West Side.

Hollywood Trend Report: Art Galleries

Hollywood Trend Report: Art Galleries Hollywoodʼs got a new art hood, and itʼs located on a grimy strip of Sunset Boulevard. Over the past few years, four galleries have popped up near the Chateau Marmont and The Standard, but decidedly worlds away in feel from the gentrified Sunset Strip. These galleries are tucked away amid tattoo parlors and pizza joints. The grittier 6000 and 7000 blocks of Sunset ensure a relatively low rent, while the Hollywood zip code raises the cool element up a notch. As LA continues to expand and assert its contemporary art community, it’s no surprise that new art neighborhoods keep popping up. Chinatown, Culver City, Downtown, Venice are already established. Now it's Hollywood's turn.

Industry Insiders: Stacey “StaceyPants” Bendet

Industry Insiders: Stacey “StaceyPants” Bendet Stacey Bendet Eisner is a woman of her own design. Deciding to forgo the Wall Street path early on, she entered the fashion world, becoming her own CEO, and after blazing the way for super original multi-colored jeans, earned her "StaceyPants" nickname. A mother to Eloise, wife to producer Eric Eisner, and often times a convivial hostess, the pint-sized powerhouse designer behind Alice + Olivia makes her work part of her life, and her life part of her work. Here she talks about her new ventures, her bi-coastal tendencies, and her love of Big Macs.

What are you doing in LA right now?
Well, I’m out here the last week of each month. We have two shops here. We just opened a store out in Malibu but right now I’m actually on my way over to my store on Robertson.

How did you get your start throwing parties?
I realized that I wanted to be part of this industry the day I started modeling. I was 18 and walking the runway at a Jean-Paul Gaultier fashion show. The excitement of the event intrigued me and soon after, I was hosting parties and organizing crazy fashion shows at a Parisian cabaret called Folies Pigalle.
