Martial Merch: Fashion Means War

imageAccording to WWD, one particular fashion trend dominating SS09 accessories is not for the faint of heart -- "guns, bullets and grenades are the focal point for a handful of jewelry designers." In the case of both LA's Bullets 4 Peace, a line spearheaded by Rafi Anteby (a former Israeli Army officer), and Dax Savage's Apocolucky Charms, arms and ammo are all the rage. On the east coast, socialite Zani Gugelmann is incorporating bullets into her not-yet-released line, Santo, which will donate 10% of sales to varying charities; meanwhile, Fetty of Brooklyn's Justin Tranter (who is also the frontman of Semi Precious Weapons) has been selling high- and low-end versions (Barney's and Urban Outfitters, respectively) of his "necklaces featuring a damaged heart with a gun, axe or saw."

Louboutin Declines Design

imageLately, it's hard to find someone not designing a clothing line. Such work seems to be the second (or third, or fourth) career of every musician, actress, and desperate celebrity housewife. However, there's at least one person out there not treading too far from his normal path. Shoe demigod Christian Louboutin says he'll never stray and design clothing -- "Not interested." Sure, the opportunity has come up before, as he told Stella magazine: "I was approached to be a clothes designer [once]. I said, 'Are you crazy, why would you even consider that?' And they said, 'Well, you have a name.' There are so many good designers, so why would I put my name on clothes when I never wanted to do it?"
