I've never used The National Enquirer as a source. But they've got a picture allegedly depicting Cindy McCain tonguing a gent who is obviously not her literal loser of a husband. In a pre-John Edwards world, that would have been a blonde woman kissing the dad from 7th Heaven, but now everything the Enquirer scoops must be believed (even though their Palin affair claim gained little traction).

Over the last few months, the media (and, subsequently, the general public) has become borderline obsessed with what the women playing roles in the presidential election are wearing. An average American can not only tell you about the cost of Cindy McCain’s convention attire, and her recycling of accessories. They know the origin of Sarah Palin’s trendsetting eyeglasses—the brainchild of an Obama-endorsing, Japanese designer. But, the real woman making serious fashion waves this election has without a doubt been Michelle Obama. And, she’s continuing to shock and delight fashion lovers by sporting a dress from a certain Swedish retailer on the campaign trail.

Behold Cindy McCain's "turquoise suit with a trapeze-shaped jacket" from Thursday night at the Republican National Convention. She's also -- horrors! -- "recycling her accessories," which include glittery jewelry commemorating her sons' service in the armed forced. Glamour's Sasha Iglehart diplomatically notes McCain "has all that sparkling going on."

Tim Gunn, fashion guru on Project Runway, has a lot of his mind. Gunn admits that -- like the general public -- he's none to happy with the current contestants on PR. He says of the lagging designers: "They keep walking around telling each other how great they are, and I keep saying to them, 'Someone is gonna go home.'" But his ire has wider targets as well; Gunn is none too impressed with tween queen Miley Cyrus' wardrobe, remarking it's a "little too tarty," and "if I didn't know better, I'd swear she was 25!" And which potential first lady wins the style battle? Michelle Obama of course. "She epitomizes class and American style, she looks approachable." And why didn't McCain get Gunn's vote? "Cindy, on the other hand -- with her button-down suits and blouses -- looks like she's duct-taped."
