Spring Sunglasses: Alexander Wang, Olsen Twins, DVF, Albert Maysles

Spring Sunglasses: Alexander Wang, Olsen Twins, DVF, Albert Maysles Spring 2010 is the season to launch a sunglasses line. That is, if you're Alexander Wang, the Olsen twins, or Diane Von Furstenberg. While Wang showcased his premiere line of specs on his football-inspired SS10 runway at New York Fashion Week; the Olsens just released images of their soon-to-debut sunglasses, which they created in collaboration with seasoned design house Linda Farrow. Now DVF is adding the accessory into the brand's repertoire for spring. Even though images have yet to surface, the company's Facebook page confirms that the designer (who was recently mugged in Madrid, but fortunately ended up safe and sound) is thisclose to her eponymous eyewear launch: "Just wrapped our eyewear shoot ... stay tuned for behind the scenes photos (and the eyewear launch in November!)."

Diane von Furstenberg to Design Rooms at Claridge’s

imageShe of the universally flattering wrap dress (and also, The City) is about to bring her design talents to Claridge's in London. She says she'll be designing "just a few rooms at [her] favorite hotel, Claridge's in London." No word on what rooms will get the DVF treatment, or if said treatments include complimentary wrap robes or wrap sheets or even wrap curtains, but surely whatever she chooses to do will be beautiful and flattering.

DVF to Stage Two Separate Fashion Week Shows

imageThe recession has taken quite a toll on this coming New York Fashion Week. Numerous designers are forgoing presentations in locales beyond Bryant Park’s tents (in hopes of saving funds), while a handful of seasoned designers have chosen to bow out of the bi-annual event entirely. Peoples Revolution designers Mara Hoffman, Sergio Davila and Nicholas K will even stage a first-ever joint presentation to save on expenses. But rather than cut back, it seems Diane Von Furstenberg is forging full steam ahead with not one but two FW09 presentations.

DVF Does Wonder Woman Comic Book

imageEarlier this year, Diane Von Furstenberg announced that she’d be launching a Wonder Woman-inspired capsule collection for DC Comics in time for the holidays. What she hasn’t said, up until now, is that the collection will include its very own comic -- with a Gloria Steinem forward and a letter from Lynda Carter no less.

Famous Ruby Slippers Revived & Redesigned

imageThere are a few costume pieces from film history that fashion lovers, like myself, seriously covet -- Audrey Hepburn's black dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dorothy's ruby slippers, and The Flying Nun's habit (I kid). To commemorate the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, Warner Bros. has partnered with Swarovski and 19 famous faces in fashion to create their own versions of Dorothy's iconic ruby slippers. Be still my beating heart!

Googling iGoogle

Googling iGoogle For the next three nights, the cyber-Gods over at Google are hosting an art event in New York's Meatpacking District to celebrate their new iGoogle application. Google commissioned over 70 artists—Jeff Koons, Philippe Starck, and Diane Von Furstenberg among them—to design their own unique iGoogle themes, which will be presented "in a very unique way" throughout the Gansevoort Plaza. (We tried to Google what "unique" really means in relation to the Google event, but our computer had a stroke.) The installation gets underway tonight at 8-ish p.m.

Diane von Furstenberg, Sole Survivor

In an industry constantly tripping over its heels to find ‘new faces,’ the fashion icon revamps her brand (yet again) with a debut shoe collection.

image

Walk a mile in Diane von Furstenberg’s shoes. No, really. Try them on for size. It was just a matter of time before the consummate designer put her sole into footwear. Of this latest venture—and her decision to scrap the red Christian Louboutin treads on the catwalk—she explains, “My shoes are not just pretty accessories. Women on the go need shoes they can walk blocks in, that take them from day to night. They need power, comfort, and fashion.” Inspired by what she calls “comfy chic,” the collection runs the gamut from strappy heels to flat sandals (ranging from $195 to $400 per pair).
