American Sweetheart Amy Adams Ain’t So Sweet

American Sweetheart Amy Adams Ain’t So Sweet High above Beverly Hills, a sun the color of a vodka screwdriver gazes weakly into a suite at the Four Seasons Hotel. In walks an Amy Adams that we have not yet met. We’ve seen her in a tiara, a nun’s robe and sensible office attire. Today she is lean in tight, dark jeans, a snug T-shirt and a low-cut jacket. She tosses her signature cherry-drop hair, and thanks to a recent cold, speaks in a sultry, Lauren Bacall rasp. One can’t help but wonder if the rough, sexy speaking voice is the latest twist in a career that is traveling down some fresh asphalt. Maybe she should maintain that louche larynx by screaming in parking lots at midnight. “That would really expand my repertoire of work,” Adams says. “It could change people’s perceptions of me.”

The Fantastic DC Inauguration Dinners You Won’t Be Attending

The Fantastic DC Inauguration Dinners You Won’t Be Attending Remember your very own small-town prom, and how you impressed your frilly date by scooping a table at the singular nice restaurant around? Then you put your glasses back on and realized you were surrounded by fellow high schoolers -- it was your first lesson in supply versus demand. Welcome to Washington DC next month, when America’s coolness crashes the capital, and the capital tries desperately to bring it in return. At this point, forget about inaugural balls, exclusive gold-specked VIP tickets, and the password-protected after-after parties. Where’s dinner? K Street’s been counting restaurants on fingers and claims it can handle all that glitterati -- just like New Orleans found everyone a seat in the Superdome. Where you dine on the night of the Second Coming defines how many degrees of separation lie between you and the Obamas. Inauguration also settles any longstanding office squabbles about Washington’s top restaurants. It’s quite simple this time: Who’s booked and who ain’t?

Celebrity Sightseeing at TIFF ‘08

Celebrity Sightseeing at TIFF ‘08 I just spent the long weekend in Toronto, where the city is kicking off its annual film festival frenzy. The Toronto International Film Festival starts today, and buzz is thick. But patio chatter anticipated Brangelina's touchdown and celebrity schmooze-fests more than actual films. But most people aren't getting into the Burn After Reading gala screening, and even less are going to see Sunshine Barry and the Disco Worms. So if world cinema isn't your thing, but you still want to participate in all the hoo-ha, there's just one option remaining: celebrity stalk the more than 500 in attendance.

Miami: Top 5 Views

imageRise above the riff raff below and survey your tropical kingdom.

1. Smith & Wollensky - Where you can sip stiff drinks by the Deco Bar and watch the sun set while cruise ships steam by.
2. Level 25 - Miami has the sexiest city lights. Overlook them while you schmooze, 250 feet above ocean level, on the 25th floor of the chic Conrad hotel.
3. Mandarin Oriental - All rooms have balconies overlooking the bay or skyline. But the stars you'll see in the lobby -- celebs dig it.

Openings: Four Seasons from Istanbul to Florence

imageAlthough Turkey still totters dizzyingly between the EU and its latent Muslim conservatism, the opening of the city’s second Four Seasons hotel definitely confirms its status as an officially scorching destination-of-the-moment. And never mind about Kipling -- at the new Four Seasons at the Bosphorus, the twain absolutely do meet, and quite magnificently so, we must say. The converted 19th-century Ottoman palace has 166 bright, contemporary rooms and features both Turkish and Mediterranean restaurants, a stylish lobby lounge, and a haman-equipped spa. Positioned on the European bank of the river, it’s a short trip to the Hagia Sophia, one of the world’s most grandiose architectural wonders.
