Eyes Wide: Supper Club’s Hudson Sky Terrace Garden Party

Eyes Wide: Supper Club’s Hudson Sky Terrace Garden Party Charmed. That was the overall feeling that lingered after exiting Tamsin Lonsdale’s Supper Club opening party for the Hudson Sky Terrace last night. To be frank, I was not expecting it to pan out this way. Upon arriving (on time, which apparently is not the thing to do at Supper Club events), I was greeted by ethereal servers dressed in cultish white with freakish Eyes Wide Shut smiles -- unnerving for a girl who had never been to a Supper Club event, who was brazenly going solo, and who had arrived to a near-empty terrace on the 15th floor of the Hudson Hotel.

Sweet Hotel Deals for April

imageHotels are slashing prices, lowering rates, and making deals. You can profit from their losses and take advantage of all the sweet deals out there right now. First up: The Kimpton Hotels "Sweet Tax Relief" deal. They're offering tax-free rooms and meals at their onsite restaurants. To make the deal a little sweeter, they're throwing in cute candy in the mix, like Sugar Daddies, 100 Grands, and Paydays. The no-tax deal can add up to a sizable savings, especially since some room taxes can be $30 a night. This offer is good at many of the properties, including Hotel Palomar, Sir Francis Drake Hotel, Hotel Triton, The Muse, Topaz Hotel, Helix Hotel, and Hotel George.

Industry Insiders: Alan Philips & Josh Shames of Sky Group

Industry Insiders: Alan Philips & Josh Shames of Sky Group Alan Philips and Josh Shames are founders of SKY Group and Deluxe Experience. Their clients include One Group (STK), Gerber Group (Whiskey Bar), Morgans Hotel Group (Hudson, Royalton, The Shore Club), Borgata Hotel, Brier Group (Highbar) ... the list goes on.

What are your favorite places in the world?
Alan Philips: Sushi of Gari. They have the freshest fish, simply and creatively prepared, in understated surroundings. I don't think that there is anywhere you can experience something as delicious and unexpected as the salmon tomato onion sushi. Bagatelle has incredible energy and music, very New York. I recently had the pleasure of staying and experiencing the newest Morgans Hotel in Miami, Mondrian Miami. Marcel Wanders has designed a spectacular hotel that captures the surprise and whimsy that you first felt when entering the Delano 20 years ago.
Josh Shames: The Box is an amazing New York experience, and I've never felt the energy from a nightclub that I have felt at Palladium in Acapulco, Mexico. 2000-plus people, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls over looking the Acapulco bay. As for restaurants, the China Club in Hong Kong or Il Latini in Florence, Italy, are the two of my favorite dining experiences. If I had a last meal, then it would be Don Pepe's in Ozone Park.

All the more reason to order room service.

New York: Top 5 Hotels You’ll Never Have to Leave

Leave the touring to the little people.
image1. 60 Thompson (Soho) - Trendy but not too obnoxious, with fine dish Kittichai downstairs and A60’s unparalleled views up top
2. Hudson Hotel (Midtown West) - Schrager and Starck’s West Side claim brings two hot bars and a swanky comfort-food cafeteria.
3. Dream Hotel (Midtown West) - Room service from Serafina, Rm. Fifty5 for off-lobby tippling, Ava for sick views on two levels. Making midtown modern/bearable.

Industry Insiders: Nick Cohen, DJ Sneaker Pimp

Industry Insiders: Nick Cohen, DJ Sneaker Pimp Nick Cohen, DJ and owner of Upper Echelon Shoes, punches the club clock, DJs sans shirt for the downtown celebs, and builds his upscale sneaker brand -- all to avoid those dreaded fluorescent office lights.

How was Los Angeles?
Really good. We Just did press and celebrity seating and met with stylists and editors [for Upper Echelon Shoes].

You’re the resident DJ Thursday nights at Southside. Other than Southside, what other spots do you like to hit up?
Because I have spent so many hours in nightclubs, if I am going out, I am going out. I like 1Oak, Tuesdays especially. I’ll go in and do a small guest [DJing] set. Just with a couple of friends, I’ll do something there. The music is always pretty good. And then Beatrice Inn. I logged many hours in the Beatrice Inn, smoke in my eyes.

Industry Insiders: Socialista’s Jeffrey Trunell

Industry Insiders: Socialista’s Jeffrey Trunell Socialista gatekeeper Jeffrey Trunell on working the door for a former doorman, club owners who scowl, and why Perez Hilton isn’t on his list.

Point of Origin: I moved to New York in 1996 to be an actor. I started working at Coffee Shop. I was a bar back and I didn't know anything. I was just a kid from Philly. I started bartending, worked at a lot of hotel bars: 60 Thompson, the Hudson, and subMercer right when it opened. I remember that was the first place where cocktails were $15. Nowadays if you're not charging $15 a drink you're nothing, but back then it was like a science experiment. My voice would always choke when I told a guy he owed me $30 for two drinks.
