Despite being one of the more riveting competitors to graduate from American Idol, Adam Lambert's first proper single, "For Your Entertainment," remains stalled on the iTunes chart at #76, a week after its release. Which wouldn't be much news had it not been for the heaps of coverage unloaded upon the fey songster. That includes the wide range of talent eager to work with him, and the possibly premature Rolling Stone and Details covers. What this doesn't mean: that the song is unlistenable. What it does mean: Lambert was being far too generous with the mainstream's ability to grasp "camp."

Whether you watched last night's Emmys on a dusty television set or on a shady internet stream prone to buffering and choppy playback (21st century chic, wave of the future, etc.), you probably noticed that TV's landmark three hour salute to TV seemed perkier than years past. And while a number of harsh elements threatened to barrel us to boredom -- like the dual monotone of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Patricia Arquette ("LOL! We both play mediums!" cried JLoHew as we eyed that Ambien hungrily) and Jeff Probst's acceptance speech (seriously -- over Padma Lakshmi?), the night was easily redeemed by over a dozen people. And one of them didn't even need to actually be present for her act of valiance.

Some time ago, Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester embarked on something of a spiritual journey through pop music. Her traipse down the worn actress-turned-singer path turned up a few gems, including a cover of "Bette Davis Eyes", this other cover originally by this band, and a curious little electro-pop romp titled "Good Girls Go Bad," where she shares singing credits with Cobra Starship -- but not until about 1:31 into the song. Just yesterday, the video surfaced onto the web. It features such Gossip Girl-ish things as salacious texts, drinking from flasks, some blokes in white-framed spectacles (I think they're the Starship), subterranean bacchanalia, and of course Queen B casting her signature ice queen glare now and again. Even when not stalking Robert Pattinson or being Ryan Adams, our trusty interns remain vigilant. Early this morning, we received a tip that went straight to the BlackBook Red Phone: the cast of Gossip Girl was shooting on location at Japonais, two blocks from our office. I quickly dispatched our elite squad of hardworking, perpetually awesome BlackBook interns on a mission: locate the cast of Gossip Girl. Document them with your high-tech image capture devices. Extend a copy of our tangible paper product visible in the frame. Finally, exfiltrate from the hot zone and return safely to HQ. Did they succeed?

At Williamsburg's Zebulon last night, I enjoyed a Rolling Rock in the cheery company of Awesome New Republic and was told to add Richard Fariña's Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me to my summer reading list. At some point, Brian Robertson, the reticent half of ANR, meekly said, "I have a fear of oranges." Michael Hancock, his chattier compliment, on the other hand, offered me a little chorizo and explained, "I'm like the monkey of the band and [Brian]'s the super-producer, the magician." He also owned up to the fact that before their single "Birthday," emerged on Perez Hilton with Gossip Girl's own Queen B on vocals, he had no idea who Leighton Meester was.

In a negligible attempt at celebrity goodwill, MTV implores Gossip Girl Leighton Meester to regard fates of numerous starlets before her who tried to awkwardly transition out of little-watched soaps into Hollywood legitimacy by way of poorly written thrillers -- to varying degrees of success. Meester is set to star in a remake of Single White Female The Roommate, a touching tale of love, deception and tragedy between Meester's character and her psychotic roommate.

Again, we're reminded of the question posed on "30 Rock." Who is this Conan O'Brien and "why is she so sad?"
