Has Ed Banger Banged Its Last Ed?

By

Nick Haramis

image

The Ed Banger/Dim Mak coterie recently overtook Cinespace in Los Angeles. Everything was as planned, it seemed, at least in pictures. Nary a neon jersey was missing. Gold chains dangled from the lanky bodies that filled the room. But something was amiss, the scene seemed to have lost its sparkle.

Benefit Cosmetics Cleans Up Your Act

By

Benefit Cosmetics Cleans Up Your Act Tomorrow is Earth Day, apparently. As such, what better way to spend an afternoon than cleaning up grafittied walls around the country? Benefit "Team Erase Paste," from the makers of anti-wrinkle goo, will be held at Skateboard Park under the Brooklyn Bridge. The same cleansing rituals will take place in Los Angeles and San Francisco. We're not exactly sure how this is supposed to fix our shitty ozone, but it's a feel-goody face-lift, and our latex gloves will be there all the same.

Mixology Report: Joe’s Lady Stardust

By

Deborah Schoeneman

S. Hector Bury, bartender at Joe's Restaurant, likes to name his cocktails after David Bowie songs. Rightly enough, his “Lady Stardust” seems like a song in a glass—one popular on the radio during summertime, like Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love.” The combination of top-shelf champagne and fresh citrus makes for a light, crisp cocktail that's deceptively light. Use it as a chaser between "strong" drinks at your peril. (I did, and I have the hangover to prove it.)

Photographer Chris Anthony shot rock bands across American until, as he puts it, his "retirement at the age of 17." He would go on to direct commercials and music videos for the Dandy Warhols among others. He even created a stunning set of Dali-inspired Playstation ads for Sony. But this, this is unexpected. In his recent exhibition at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, "I'm the Most Normal Person I Know," Anthony explores his gothic side with a series of haunting images that meet somewhere between the imaginations of Annie Leibovitz and Tim Burton. Inspired by Ralph Bakshi, Monty Python, and The Muppet Show, Anthony explains, "There is nothing strange about this at all. Nothing. As I am the most normal person I know."
