Apéro Tips from the Parisian Culinary Underground

Apéro Tips from the Parisian Culinary Underground Secret supper clubs are nothing new in NYC (Whisk and Ladle; Jack; A Razor, A Shiny Knife), but they’ve yet to cross the Atlantic and make it over here in Paris. Perhaps it’s because the French care more about keeping traditions than being in-the-know, or because culinary speakeasies make no sense to people who never lived through Prohibition, or maybe it’s that the French just don’t need the help of hidden spots to create a mysterious romance (what with sites like the Opera House right outside the Metro, and that je ne sais quoi running through their veins, they can’t get away from it). But there is one secret supper club in Paris -- run by a young American couple -- and it’s a dining experience that tops all the others.

Kisses from Paris

Of course Paris's tourism board commissions something as sexy and beautiful as this short, directed by critically acclaimed French actor-director Yvan Attal. The video is subtitled in French and dubbed in English, and there's far too much time spent with the couple eyeing each other with their cell phones, but it doesn't matter -- the short film is sweet and sexy and definitely makes me want to head straight to Paris for some serious making out all over the city.

Dear LAX: You Suck

Dear LAX: You Suck Frequent fliers (those who have traveled an average of 17 times over the last two months) have voted, and all 14,500 agree: LAX is a terrible airport. In fact, it's the third most terrible airport in the world, eclipsed only by Charles De Gaulle in Paris and London's Heathrow airport. Rounding out the top five worst airports in the world are Frankfurt International and Miami International. So what makes LAX so bad?

Roland Mouret Mugs for Fashionair.com, Sells Spring 2010 Early

Roland Mouret Mugs for Fashionair.com, Sells Spring 2010 Early Tis the season for designers to live broadcast their collection presentations. Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Alexander McQueen all did it. Not to mention Norma Kamali and BCBG's Max Azria started selling looks from their SS10 collections immediately after they debuted at New York Fashion Week last month. And now, Roland Mouret -- the revered designer who launched RM in 2007 after a hiatus following a departure from his namesake brand -- is following suit. Twenty-eight cameras will document Mouret's SS10 show, which takes place today in Paris; all of the footage (including that of the runway, backstage, and interviews) will air on recently launched Fashionair.com in exactly one week.

Macaroning Through Paris

Macaroning Through Paris To me, Paris is as much Pierre Hermé as Hermes, as much Ladurée as Yves Saint Laurent. Like any hot-blooded female, of course a walk down Rue Royale will always set my heart racing at the sight of the full-length jungle floral dresses by Kenzo in their VIIIe arrondissiment window, but truth be told I only linger a moment before the displays before legging it around the corner. Ladurée awaits, and I simply cannot begin Paris without a trip to the macaron counter at my favorite of their opulent tearooms.

Google Mapping in Paris

Google Mapping in Paris Google Maps has moved on from the big intersections and broad avenues in Paris to the tiny pedestrian walkways so that Street View covers all these nooks and crannies. "The idea is to be able to offer 360-degree images of places that were inaccessible before," Google spokesperson Anne-Gabrielle Dauba-Pantanacce said in an interview. The fact that Google wants to conquer all the streets by photo is not really a surprise. However, how they do it is fairly interesting. Ironically, all these photos must be taken "by hand" -- i.e. on a goofy-looking tricycle that sports a long pole in the back.

Style Muse: Lanvin Ete Resort 2010

Style Muse: Lanvin Ete Resort 2010 Resort shows are kind of quirky, no? Usually it's an all-out runway platform for the designer to show off their true colors, perhaps their more playful side. It's a time for motifs to be a little more literal, colors exceptionally vibrant, and no-stops fun to be had. And we're guessing Alber Elbaz didn't have any shortage of that when visiting Hawaii to inspire Lanvin's take on resort, as even the ridiculous gaping faces of the faux first-row lineup posted behind the runway showed the real first row, and those subsequently behind, that they were in for a good time.
