Patrick Moberg Points Out the Obvious

Patrick Moberg Points Out the Obvious If Patrick Moberg thinks illustrating the blatantly obvious is going to win back his beloved subway sweetheart, I gotta tell him -- it might. Through a rather striking illustration, Moberg reminds us that last night we elected our first black president. He also reminds us that William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and James K. Polk didn't have eyebrows, and that every president always, and only, was wore white.

Camille Hayton Moves On from Subway Sweetheart

imageFormer BlackBook intern Camille Hayton -- she of the famed subway romance -- gets the where-is-she-now treatment in the Sunday Telegraph (from Camille's homeland of Australia). Despite the hype, the romance angle didn't last beyond a couple months (as has been widely reported), but Camille and temporarily lovelorn stalker Patrick Moberg remain "just friends." Meanwhile, the aspiring actress has enjoyed a role as a waitress on As the World Turns, plus a bit part in the Sex and the City movie. She plans on returning to Oz in October to spend the holidays with family and to generally avoid the subway for a bit.

Camille and the Aussie Lowdown

Kylie Minogue put it best when she sang, 'Lucky, lucky, lucky, I should be so lucky in love.' How come Aussies—like our very own Camille—get all the breaks (and the good American-accented parts)?

imageCate Blanchett, in BlackBook magazine's "Music Issue," left.

Below, our less-than-scientific (and entirely incomprehensive) directory of Australia's best and brightest (and their main squeezes).

CATE BLANCHETT met her husband, writer Andrew Upton, in 1996 while working on a stage production of The Seagull. They married a year later. Of their initial attraction, Blanchett later told Vanity Fair, "He thought I was aloof and I thought he was arrogant."

NICOLE KIDMAN and Tom Cruise first caught each other's attention while filming Days of Thunder. They married on December 24, 1990. They separated when Kidman was three months pregnant, just before their tenth wedding anniversary. (So, this one's not so rose-tinted.)

Camille’s Cupid Spills Everything

Intern intermediary Jason Rider takes us back to the beginning.

imageA few words from our resident matchmaker, Jason Rider, left.

"On Tuesday, in between performing my glamorous daily tasks as a New York fashion intern (you know, sorting mail, retrieving grande super mocha soy double-shot lattes, and de-linting cashmere sweaters), I took a break to refresh Gawker's homepage for the 5th time in the last five minutes. [Ed. note: He's fired.] That's when I stumbled upon a post about Patrick Moberg's relentless, illustrated search for the 'New York Girl of His Dreams' and assumed my dream as a matchmaker. From the ubiquitous flower to the rosy cheeks, I recognized that the subject of Patrick's search was indeed my friend and fellow sweatshop worker (or 'intern,' as our editors like to joke) Camille.

Sliding Doors, Subway Stalkers, and Camille

It doesn't just happen to BlackBook interns.

image
John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, above, not on the subway.

Stalkers are everywhere! In trains, films, and tunes too! Below, a rundown and glimpsed appraisal of movies and songs that capture that bizarre moment when complete strangers somehow come together and get their gettin' on.

SERENDIPITY: A classic boy-meets-girl tale of love at first sight. You know, the old yarn where soulmates meet, fall in love, and then leave it up to Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

SLIDING DOORS: With the power of cinema and Ms. Paltrow’s considerable talent, this film gives us a blonde, a brunette, and the wisdom of hindsight in the present. Oh, and romance. It’s really a great little package.

SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE: IMDB summary: “Annie goes to great lengths to meet Sam.” Throw in some humorous hijinks and you’ve got yourself a rom-com by numbers.

Patrick Moberg’s Crush is BlackBook’s Camille Hayton!

Um, instead of covering something with substance, we bring you the epilogue to the ongoing subway saga.

imageDream Girl, left.

Over at BlackBook, we've been following the Patrick Moberg Dream Girl story along with the rest of pathetically single New York—boy takes subway, boy falls in love with girl, boy starts website to find her—but apparently we're not so good at deciphering Patrick's art. On Tuesday morning, our intrepid fashion intern Jason made a shocking discovery: he ID'd the blue-shorted, braid-wearing Dream Girl as our own editorial intern, an Aussie beauty who regularly wears braids and flowers and has been known to keep a journal or two. A photo of Moberg's dream date is attached, and it's been confirmed that she's The One—her apartment burned down a few days ago and she's got bigger things to worry about than calling us back so that we can whore her out over the Internet.
