Phillip Lim Footwear First Look

Phillip Lim Footwear First Look It's been a big year for Phillip Lim. Not only has the designer continued to garner critical acclaim, he's in the process of expanding his empire quite a bit -- namely with a new accessories line as well as swimsuits and lingerie. (Not to mention his sub-label for canines.) While Lim's bathingwear and lingerie lines have dropped, his much-anticipated shoe collection has yet to debut in stores. But thanks to the shoe gods that be, looks from the collection have arrived.

Phillip Lim’s Next Move: Canine Couture

imageDuring such hard economic times as these, it seems both smart and logical that many designers are branching out. For Zac Posen, it’s a diffusion line; meanwhile, Karl Lagerfeld has taken to creating titillating dishware. Pajamas Invade Daytime

imageCasual Fridays might be doomed to be a long and lazy weekend. You can thank Julian Schnabel, as he's ushered in pajamas as the new sleeper fashion wear. Dudes are wearing Hef silks in public! This week, designers Phillip Lim, Michael Bastian, and Tim Hamilton will unveil pajama-inspired clothes meant to be worn in broad daylight. (Last year, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Giorgio Armani dipped into the same genre.) Tyler Thoreson of Men's Style says, "If you really wanted to deconstruct it, you could say buried in there is some kind of commentary on our overworked, sleep-starved culture." But even then, he says he can't envision overworked, sleep-starved professionals wearing pajamas out in public.

The (Solar) Power of T-Shirts

The (Solar) Power of T-Shirts The fashion world is responsible for bestowing upon us much good. It’s indirectly (or directly) responsible for the Kate Moss coke tape, the latest cover of V Magazine, and come to think of it, our September issue. Every once in a while, the gliteratti of the fashion world unite for a supremely worthy cause. A jaunt to JustOneFrickinDay.com will reveal just cause in Joey Jalleo and Elettra Wiedemann's (supermodel face of Lancome and daughter of Isabella Rossellini) effort to bring a solar-powered hospital to the African nation of Burundi. The Burundi Solar project aims to raise $450K by gathering six of the fashion industry’s most influential rising stars to design T-shirts for purchase on their website. Chris Benz, Giambattista Valli, Rogan, Rag & Bone, Phillip Lim and House of Diehl have designed the limited edition shirts for $60 each. T-shirts have been on sale since yesterday, so be a pal and help a nation out.
