Hindmarch Target Bags Sold Out in Two Minutes

By

Alisa Gould-Simon

imageWhat is it about Anya Hindmarch handbags? You may remember back when her "I’m Not a Plastic Bag" canvas totes were as ubiquitous as Uggs in their heyday. Label whores and green freaks alike shouldered the environmentally friendly accessory en force. Now we’re about to get hit by another Hindmarch concept-handbag invasion.

Pop-Up Goes New York Fashion Week

By

Alisa Gould-Simon

imageFollowing in the footsteps of Parisian retailer (and arguable arbiter of cool) Colette, Target has just announced it will open four pop-up shops in the Big Apple come the end of New York Fashion Week. While the former will occupy a space in Gap's 54th Street flagship store starting September 6, the latter will set up shop in Midtown, Union Square, SoHo, and the East Village. Since pop-up shops are as common to Fashion Week as post-presentation lunches at Pastis, neither announcement is especially earth-shattering. But that's not to say New York's sartorial set isn't rejoicing.

Retail Roundup: Staerk Restarts, AA in China, Target Takes Manhattan

Lauren Garroni

imageJane Mayle may be bowing out of her New York shop, but in her place comes gothy Danish designer Camilla Staerk. The designer, who relocated to New York from London after losing her namesake to her backers there, says of the change, "I'm going back to my roots in leather and texture." You see this not just in her latest collection but also in the design of the 500-square-foot store, with its dark wood floors, leather, and walnut chairs. In other retail action, it's expected that China will see its first American Apparel store after many delays.

Targeting Alexander McQueen

By

Lauren Garroni

imageA story that couldn't possibly be true, although we hope it is true (but probably not): the rumor that Target may sign Alexander McQueen as their next Go International Designer. The popular, inexpensive collection has in the past snagged big names like Luella Bartley, Alice Temperley, Proenza Schouler, and Erin Fetherston. And although they have a deal with Sigerson Morrison in the pipeline, there's never been someone so high profile as McQueen. Neither side would comment on the rumor, though McQueen has been wetting his feet in the discount market recently. In 2006, he started his own lower-priced diffusion line McQ, and he designs footwear for Puma.

Right on Target!

Right on Target! For a few years now, Target has been bringing us exciting and inexpensive collections from international designers such as Proenza Schouler, Jovovich-Hawk, Erin Fetherston, Rogan Gregory, and Isaac Mizrahi, just to name a few. As if that didn’t do enough to rival sample sales for our money, Target whets our appetite for penny-pinching with Bergdorf-Goodman quality—and names—in beauty. High-end cosmetic lines such as Pixi, JK Jemma Kidd, and Napoleon Perdis’ Set will become available to the masses at Target in August. Talk about getting your money’s worth. Target could only be more convenient if it opened a store in Manhattan.
