In no way has Jon Bon Jovi lost his chutzpa or his candid sense of humor after 25 years on the road in and out of the popularity slot. And he can still bang out a memorable rock anthem. Last night at Alice Tully Hall/Lincoln Center, American Express presented a special unplugged evening with the Jersey-bred legend. AmEx sold tickets through a Twitter announcement at $50 each (all proceeds were donated to City Harvest via the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation), and the cardmember event sold out in less than day. All attendees were highly encouraged to tweet about the experience to @AmericanExpress. The night began with a clip of Bon Jovi documentary When We Were Beautiful, while the film’s director, Phil Griffin, led a Q & A. Richie and the rest of the band were MIA, but Jon solo was enough presence for the stage and overly enthused fans. Even sans his boys, he played the popular tracks, "Livin' on a Prayer," "Who Says You Can't Go Home," "Lost Highway," "Whole Lot of Leavin'," and "Wanted Dead or Alive." And yes, the audience cried. The holiday season is now all jumbled up into one long blast of synchronized hype for the final months of the year, even spilling into the next -- one long sprint from Labor Day to Valentine's Day. I know it's not even Thanksgiving, but some people are already thinking about New Year's Eve, and Las Vegas wants to put their bid in early. The Strip is one giant boozefest for the countdown to midnight, with fireworks in the sky and huge drink-bongs littering the streets. A couple weeks ago, I was perusing the aisles of my local bodega, clawing for a brick of coffee that wasn't months past its expiration date. During this pursuit, a pair of tweens came stampeding in, their muffin-tops spilling out over their denim cut-offs. They were yammering on about whatever it is tween girls talk about (boys, nail polish, and the UN's plan to earmark $1.5 billion to boost agriculture across Africa and The Middle East) when suddenly "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus came on the radio. At this point, girl one turned to girl two and remarked, "OHMYFUCKINGGODISTHISMILEYCYRUS? IFUCKINGHATETHISBITCH I NEED TO LEAVE. LET'S GET OUT OF HERE." Girl two tried to retain her composure, quietly offering, "Chill out." But girl one groaned and made a series of grunting noises I didn't realize the human throat was capable of generating. I was mortified.

Twitter and travel go together like flights and on-tarmac delays. It's not that tweeter @SpaSally didn't like some of the spa deals we've been sharing, it's just that she has a much better hookup herself. People sometimes try to present outlandish arguments to me as a past-time. Sometimes they'll make a case for how Alyssa Milano is a "hot babe" and has a "sweet ass." I tend to stare back blankly as a result. Other times, they'll say that Ashton Kutcher's comedic stylings are sharp, cutting edge, and positively uproarious. At this point, I suggest they ease off the Irish Car Bombs. But to their credit, their incoherent outbursts represent something edifying: that part of America that time forgot. A part which also inexplicably remains a hindrance to all progress. These are people who appreciated Alyssa Milano on Who's the Boss, but not so much on Charmed (that conflicted with their warped world views.) They also enjoyed guffawing to Kelso's antics on That '70s Show too. And what better way to gently take this distrusting chunk of the American electorate by the hand and say, "No, friend! Universal health care is not a step towards full-blown communism! It simply means that parents who otherwise can't afford to can buy a thing to cure their child's sickness. So he doesn't come to school and infect your ugly brat." Yes, Milano and Kutcher may be excellent casual ambassadors for this issue as it goes up against the blue-hairs in Senate.

Crude header for an even cruder bit of oversharing, I suppose. However, at least Jeremy Piven's not alone! Recently, Patron Saint of Everything Amazing Dolly Parton tweeted about the ginormity of her breasts, "Aahhh chiropractor ... Hurts so good :-) you lug these around and see if your back don't hurt!" And you know who took a break from tearing the CW a new one (sheesh, the netlet's down on its luck, isn't it?) to agree with ol' Dolly? Her new BFF Jessica Simpson!

Mild sadness! It seems that venerable siren of song and screen Miley Cyrus' so-called party is quickly devolving into a pitiful shitshow. Cyrus is finding that, yes, every party has to end. And the culmination of all of these things is her version of that single moment when she runs out of Doritos, the keg dries up, cops arrive on her front door, and a nimrod swipes her iPod. Having recently been voted Worst Celebrity Influence by a poll that scientifically determines such absolutes, Cyrus has decided that now is the best moment to launch into a nuanced monologue about the terrors of Twitter.
