First Look: Sea of Shoes for Urban Outfitters, Take Two

First Look: Sea of Shoes for Urban Outfitters, Take Two Back in June, when news of Sea of Shoes' teenage blogger Jane Aldridge's footwear collaboration with Urban Outfitters hit fashion's blog wire, it was a big deal -- arguably one of the first where a major retailer employed a fashion blogger to design a collection (although Susie Bubble of Stylebubble did this across the pond prior to Aldridge's deal). The first collection soon debuted, with three on-trend styles: a toeless boot, a laced flat, and a studded platform. Now, comes Sea of Shoes' second installment, just in time for fall.

Anthropologie: The New Target

Anthropologie: The New Target Anthropologie is pulling a page right out of Urban Outfitters' or Target's playbook. Specifically, the chain retailer has been embarking on a number of noteworthy designer collaborations. First there was news of a partnership with Ruffian. The fashion brand has crafted a decidedly French-feeling FW09 capsule collection for Anthropologie (think Catherine Deneuve circa the 1960s), including dresses, tights, tops, coats, and candles, all of which are currently online.

Urban Outfitters Gets Reformed

Urban Outfitters Gets Reformed The New York female fashion community has been buzzing about The Reformation -- the sister boutique to the LA original -- for months. The store's mission is simple: bring shoppers reworked vintage clothing that's up-to-date (or, rather, the nanosecond) with regard to trends at a reasonable price point. The brainchild of Yael Aflalo and Chi Bui (the former launched the sportswear label YA-YA years ago to great success, and Aflalo and Bui have since consolidated it into a single line for Urban Outfitters, Love by YA-YA), The Reformation stocks everything from covetable mini-dresses to studded boots and perfectly loose-fitting boyfriend blazers. And, now that The Reformation has teamed up with Urban Outfitters to become the umpteenth designer to collaborate with the retailer, they're serving up more of the same via Reformed by The Reformation.

Elisabeth Moss: Mad Style

Elisabeth Moss: Mad Style Elisabeth Moss is a smoldering star on AMC's Mad Men, which happens to be a universe thickly populated with slow burners. As Peggy Olson, Moss fist came across as a clueless naïf in the high-flying world of Madison Avenue in the early 1960s. However, though she seemed like a true tabula rasa in office assistant form, her opaque persona concealed a calculating and at times ruthless ambition. Peggy serves as both foil and reflection for Jon Hamm's Don Draper, and the two embody one of the most nuanced male-female relationships on television within one of the most creatively complex shows on television. On the heels of her own Emmy nomination for best lead actress in a drama -- among 16 other nominations for Mad Men -- Moss talks about awards, life on a "small" show, her devotion to Urban Outfitters, and that thing with Don Draper.

Christian Joy Art Show, Possible Urban Outfitters Colab

Christian Joy Art Show, Possible Urban Outfitters Colab You may not know Christiane Hultquist, the creative force behind Christian Joy, by face or name. But, if you've ever seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O onstage, you've seen the fruits of the former's labor. Christian Joy is not only responsible for the high priestess of rock's performance ensembles -- the brand also includes a ready-to-wear line that's been carried everywhere from Topshop to Harvey Nichols. Hultquist is teaming up with her husband for a slightly different endeavor: an art-meets-fashion installation at LES shop TG-170. Of the show, titled "When I Want You In The Night," Hultquist says it'll include "dresses, scarves and tees for sale as well as artwork."

Urban Outfitters Expands

Urban Outfitters Expands Urban Outfitters isn't slowing down with the designer collaborations whatsoever. The latest names to be added to the chain's long list of design partners are headgear maven Eugenia Kim, as well as LA-based jewelry designer Annie Costello Brown, says Style.com. Considering each of these accessory designers' wares can be priced in the few hundreds, the teaming provides a great opportunity to score sartorial spice at a budget-conscious price point. While photos from the respective side projects haven't been released, the fruits from the partnerships will hit stores by the fall.

Crop Tops Still Holding Strong for Fall

Crop Tops Still Holding Strong for Fall Refinery 29 has a sneak peek at Urban Outfitters' offerings for Fall, and what's in store is well worth noting. While the mega-retailer by no means boasts the kind of ingenuity and innovation seen on some Fashion Week runways, season after season the mainstream brand manages to put forth collections with a decidedly strong finger on the pulse of what consumers want. Whether you're a fan or a feverish opponent of the chain outpost, if you're curious what styles will be dominating sidewalks come fall, kindly consider what they plan on stocking.

Mirrored Shades Are the New Wayfarers

imageReflective shades are making a comeback among the fashion pack. According to Bryanboy, the likes of professional poser Agyness Deyn and Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough (now best known to middle America as the designer whose nose Kiefer Sutherland broke) have been seen sporting 80s-style reflective sunglasses. Meanwhile, trend sensitive Urban Outfitters already has house-designed super-cheap mirrored shades in stock.

Urban Outfitters Hawks Yet Another Vintagey Brand

imageUrban Outfitters is looking to extend its hold over the hipster market with a new “retail concept called We The Free, a more casual, knit-driven spin-off to its Free People division,” says WWD. Two new We The Free locales have already hit Chicago and Brooklyn. The “vintage-inspired” (cringe) line first hit Free People (a brand likewise owned by UO’s parent company, Urban Outfitters Inc) stores in December of last year. Since then, response has been positive enough to warrant a full-on expansion of the line.

Urban Outfitters Adds 3 New Designer Collaborations

Urban Outfitters Adds 3 New Designer Collaborations Urban Outfitters just loaded up goods from three new designer collaborations that are sure to cause some fashion frenzy. There's Bee 23 by Bing Bang -- a diffusion accessories line (handbags and jewelry included) from New York-based designer Anna Sheffield, who is also the face behind regular Bing Bang, not to mention her own, high-end eponymous accessories line. Then there's very cute jumpers from S Loves C by Spring & Clifton. Also sure to cause a stir are the high-waisted jeans from Grey Ant's Grey Antics Line. Both the uber-high Tab jean and New Wave jean remind me a lot of the denim looks from Grey Ant’s AW08 line. Fortunately, the Urban Outfitters-approved pairs will cost you about a third of what Grey Ant’s denim typically retails for.
