LAX Launches New Virgin Terminal

By

LAX Launches New Virgin Terminal LAX is adding a fresh virgin to their harem of terminals. Beginning December 3, Virgin America and Virgin Australia's large fleet will begin entering and exiting the nubile, renovated terminal. This isn't a project on the scale of JetBlue's snazzy new terminal at JFK, but give Virgin credit for spending minimal funds to make subtle changes like adding mood lighting, better seating, and converting the outdoor smoking lounge into a patio restaurant, as well as adding a Gladstone's seafood joint. Looks like someone is due for an upgrade.

Virgin Joins Vincent Chase’s Entourage

imageIn case this Sunday's season five premiere of Entourage flies passed you, HBO has painted the show's logo across a Virgin Airlines Airbus A320 as part of the new pseudo-airline "Entourage Air." Passengers will take advantage of Virgin's custom in-flight delights, which include atmospheric lighting and custom-made leather seating. But the real kicker here are the new episodes of Entourage showing on the plane's touchscreen entertainment system. The whole endeavor his being launched tomorrow at a plush party at Virgin's JFK hangar, where the inaugural flight will take off en route to Las Vegas. Virgin is billing this as your chance to experience the Entourage high life by offering up noise-canceling headphones, a glass of signature champagne, a Godiva truffle, a Kiehl's travel set, an Entourage air blanket and eye mask, and Altoids. But unless the flight attendants moonlight as strippers, the whole thing is for naught.

Airlines (Not Airfares) Get Cheap

Airlines (Not Airfares) Get Cheap Remember when travelers complained about airplane food, yet scarfed it down anyway? Now, most complaints revolve around the absence of airplane food -- or at least the absence of free airplane food. Airlines are on the ropes due to high fuel prices, and they're sticking it to customers in turn. Time.com has a brief rundown of the cheapest airlines, and I'm not talking about ticket prices. JetBlue's charging for blankets and pillows now, and US Airways just started levying fees for the simple, humble inflight (nonalcoholic!) beverage. On the plus side, econo-line Southwest doesn't charge for its famous peanuts (yet), and Virgin America still lets you check one bag for nothing. As for the most cash-strapped airlines, soon they'll charge for lifejackets in the unlikely event of a water landing.

SuperFly Virgin

SuperFly Virgin It's about time everyone joined the Mile-Fly Club at Virgin America. Every Wednesday—SuperFly Wednesdays, now—passengers are given two free drinks, along with the opportunity to chat with everyone onboard. If talking isn't your thing, however, peruse the latest issue of BlackBook from 35,000 feet, which is now available on every seatback. But, the turbulence ain't over when the captain lands the plane. Afterwards, enjoy more comped cocktails from local bar partners.
