There’s No App For That

Key West tourism in Florida is jumping on the iPhone app parody bandwagon and came up with a clever little ad that basically says there is no app that can take the place of actually doing things like canoeing, hanging out with your family, and sunning on the beach. At least there isn't such an app YET. Here's hoping! Meanwhile, see a few more similar parodies, i.e. the most sincere form of flattery, after the jump.

Evernote: Photo-Text App Makes Human Memory Even More Superfluous

Evernote: Photo-Text App Makes Human Memory Even More Superfluous A picture is worth 1,000 words, unless of course, all you want is the words. Enter Evernote, the handy little app that already lets you mumble deep thoughts into your iPhone, recording your musings while tracking and managing any other text you type while out and about. It's one of the better apps for travel because it also tracks text in any photo. This means that you can now search for text within your photos, which comes in handy if you're trying to remember which hotel you stayed at where -- just make sure to take a picture of the hotel's marquee, and you can text-search through your photos to find it.

Airport Navigator Needs the App Treatment

Airport Navigator Needs the App Treatment Travel + Leisure came out with a rather cool feature on their site this summer, but it's not nearly as cool as it could be. The feature is called the "Airport Navigator," and it has detailed lists of hotspots to check out inside airport terminals -- restaurants, spas, shopping, and things to do. Once you click through the listings, you can see ratings and leave comments. The LA Times pointed out that the site could definitely use maps of the terminals, because as it stands now, there are no visual clues about how to get around to these recommended spots. But really, duh -- the Airport Navigator should be an iPhone app.

5 Best Travel Apps for iPhone

5 Best Travel Apps for iPhone If a vacation is on your horizon, get ready to start downloading. Plenty of apps out there that will take some hassle out of your trips, and in some cases, even save you bundles of cash. Of course you must begin with our very own BlackBook Guide, but why stop there?

1. Priceline Negotiator (Free) - This app is so fresh it still has the new app smell when you download it. With only two days of app store time, it has rocketed to the top, stealing one of the top five seats in the free app category. Why? Well, this app finally makes it practical to get that last-minute hotel room when you're out and about. So let's say you've been knocking a few back and you're in Times Square and hey, you don't want to go all the way back home. Shake your phone and the recent winning bid around your GPS location shows up. You can then enter some lowball bids (remember, these hotel rooms are "perishable goods") and snag a fab deal up until 11pm the night you need it. Also, as a bonus, the Priceline Negotiator guy "breaks" through your screen when the app opens.

Icon Norma Kamali on Her Favorite iPhone Apps

Icon Norma Kamali on Her Favorite iPhone Apps In between a Q&A with Dries Van Noten at FIT and a stellar presentation from Vena Cava at Milk Studios yesterday, I managed to squeeze in some time with iconic fashion designer Norma Kamali (who has been crafting collections for over 40 years) at her uptown store. Salesgirls and Kamali alike were getting into the spirit of Fashion's Night Out, hawking signature Kamali goods at sample sale prices ($100 a pop); not to mention Kamali meanwhile took to feeding me lavender shortbread cookies and champagne with lavender soda (no complaints here). The creative force behind three separate collections -- the Norma Kamali Collection, N-K for Walmart, and the soon-to-debut Norma Kamali for eBay (which has its own domain at NormaKamalibay.com) -- will showcase the fruits of her labor with a presentation at the Apple store in Soho this coming Thursday, September 17, at 11am.. Open to the public, the show's titled "The Democratization of Fashion" (and egalitarian it will be: there are no seating assignments, nor will there be a rope or guest list of any kind).

$99 TomTom iPhone App

$99 TomTom iPhone App That's right, the decimal point is in the wrong place. The TomTom app isn't $0.99, it's $99, and it launched this morning in the app store. The app basically acts like a GPS tracker with intelligence, so perhaps it is worth almost a hundred dollars. You can put in your destination and it will give you turn by turn directions, as well as options for the most efficient route, called IQ routes. In addition you can tap on over to an entry in your contacts list and the app will route you to their house (provided you have their address).

Low Self-Esteem: There’s An App for That

Low Self-Esteem: There’s An App for That Just in case you’re not sufficiently self-critical, there’s now an iPhone app that will rate your attractiveness on a scale from one to ten. Following in the noble tradition of ego boosters such as hotornot.com (which also has an iPhone app) and the Facebook app that allows you to choose the most attractive members of your crew, the $3 Vanity application uses “the Golden Ratio to evaluate and score the attractiveness of human faces based on facial structure.”
