Los Angeles: Top 10 Grub Trucks

Los Angeles: Top 10 Grub Trucks

Everything in Los Angeles seems to be on wheels—including some of the best places to eat. Sadly, east-side favorite Taco Zone is out of commission following a fire—no one was harmed, just the tacos—and we look forward to returning to the Silver Lake staple soon. Meanwhile, today’s top contenders.

Kogi Korean BBQ - A blend of Mexican fare and Korean cooking, this truck has 31,000 stalkers via Twitter. With inventive cuisine like the Korean short ribs taco and taro chips made fresh daily, prepare to wait in line for an hour or more with the other disciples.
The Green Truck - This eco-friendly taco truck serves locally grown, organic, sustainably raised meals and can even run on vegetable oil. But green doesn’t come cheap: The ahi poke tacos with citrus and cilantro marinade and pineapple salsa will set you back $11.
Don Chow Tacos - Clearly inspired by Kogi, new-to-the-scene Don Chow Tacos pairs Mexican and Chinese cuisines. Try the soy-ginger tofu taco—tasty as it is trendy.

New York: Top 10 Joints for an Easy Hook-Up

imageNew York City is a veritable hot zone for burning loins on a mission to be cooled. But where is one to go when craving a no-frills hook-up with no need to swap digits afterward? If you’re over the romance, and have already exhausted our targeted tips for boys and girls—here’s a little something for everyone looking for a little something.

Felix (Soho) - Your best bet for a little Sunday afternoon delight. Go for the brunch, stay for the booty. The wait for a table is so long that you will have met five potential hook-ups and ingested three Bloody Marys by the time you sit down.
Hudson Terrace (Midtown West) - If you’ve read even one article in the past month about nightlife, then you’ve definitely heard of this highly publicized pick-up zone. Attractive people are flocking to the West Side Highway lounge for its large roof and loud music with a clear mission to make a match, for the evening at least. In fact, the music is so loud, you needn’t produce semi-witty banter before you begin to bump n’ grind.

The Things We Do For Love: New York’s Top Date Spots

The Things We Do For Love: New York’s Top Date Spots

To some, love is motivated by how fat one’s pocketbook is. To others, it’s based on where one is able to get a reservation at peak time on a Friday night. Excite your summer love with these unabashedly romantic restaurants—incredibly sexy date spots, dripping with intimacy, dishes that arouse the senses, good lighting, or otherwise just priced to impress. For more inspiration of the culinary sort (inspiration of the other sort may be too, uh, inspirational for this site), check out Restaurants in the guides and choose the Romantic/Date Spot vibe.

Casa la Femme (West Village) - Former downtown romantic gone uptown returns to camp out in the West Vil. The softest of soft lighting, plush seating, and intricately detailed decor set the mood; signature fig martinis and French Kiss cocktails spell romance; the hip-swiveling belly dancers spell something else, but it’s all sexy.
The Bourgeois Pig (East Village) - A dark, red room that’s a perfect post-dinner spot when things are going well, or a date spot to pull out all the stops. The fondue makes things romantic for him and her, because let’s face it; dip-able things are sexy as hell.

The Hamptons: Top New & Buzzy Joints

The Hamptons: Top New & Buzzy Joints

One of the most buzzed-about Hamptons openings this summer is actually a re-opening of sorts. A group led by Andrew Chapman, who owns August in the West Village (the group’s also rumored to include Jon Bon Jovi, Ronald Perelman and Renee Zellweger—but you may as well throw in Jimmy Hoffa, the Montauk Monster, and Jackson Pollack) is resurrecting The Blue Parrot in East Hampton. The opening’s been set back a few weeks (as just about every restaurant opening since the birth of the Candy Kitchen has been), but when it arrives, the Parrot promises to bring back the “Killer Mexican” still touted on the wooded sign out front, even though the place has been empty since 2006.

New York: Top 10 Oddball Dishes That Work

imageIt all started in the Lower East Side back in 2003—before the skinny-jeaned hipster invasion—when now-celeb chef Wylie Dufresne opened wd-50. Melding science and food, the molecular gastronomer has since inspired many to experiment. Of course, not everyone’s into mad food science, but most chefs like to get a little edgy somewhere on the menu.

● Cookies @ Momofuku Bakery Milk Bar (East Village) - David Chang could get a vegetarian hooked on pork belly, so imagine what the man’s dessert spot can do with a cookie. Among the most drool-worthy: cornflake-marshmallow-chocolate chip, corn, blueberry cream, and compost cookie (so fabulously odd that the chocolate chip, pretzel, potato chip, coffee ground, and graham-cracker crumb-concoction is trademarked).
● Onion soup dumplings @ Stanton Social (Lower East Side - You’ll just have to focus on its deliciousness and put aside the fact that there’s enough cheese in this dish to give you a cholesterol problem.

New York: Top 10 Middle Eastern Restaurants

imagePasha (Upper West Side) - Though its name often gets it confused with Ibiza import Pacha, the only similarity the spots share is that they’re both perpetually packed. Bargain prices, friendly service, and a quaint atmosphere make the wait for a table bearable.
Tanoreen (Bay Ridge) - Though Astoria gets most of the attention when it comes to Middle Eastern food outside of Manhattan, this Brooklyn restaurant’s hodgepodge of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean eats puts Bay Ridge on the map.
Le Souk (East Village) - Sure, the crowd’s a little on the boisterous B&T side, and you’ll come out reeking of hookah smoke. But if you’re looking for some ladies to fill out your harem, this is the spot.
