Because James Franco is the meme that keeps on memeing, he's got another off-kilter project to add to his whole post-modern Renaissance man thing: reports are that he'll join the cast of Hollywood Heights, an upcoming original soap opera set to premiere on Nick at Nite. Based on a Mexican telenovela called Alcanzar Una Estrella, the show will feature Franco in a multi-episode narrative about a young songwriter who teams up with a rock star she idolizes (that'll be Franco) after winning some kind of competition. Considering his extended stint on General Hospital, it seems like Franco's got a real thing for over-dramatized serial television, enough to put off the follow-up to Palo Alto for a little longer. The show will premiere in June, though it's not certain when he'll be joining the set.

In other Franco news: New Yorkers, don't forget to catch his documentary Francophrenia, which chronicles his time behind the scenes of that General Hospital stint, at the Tribeca Film Festival during April 18-29. It'll presumably give us a method to Franco's madness, though the answer might really not be more complicated than "I'm rich, I'm smart, and I have fun doing stuff." God bless him and all of us.
