Are you a basic cable subscriber with no plans for Valentine’s Day? You’re definitely not alone, and if you think Valentine’s Day is dumb and don’t plan on buying into the Hallmark holiday madness, the sentimental shlock or corporate gag-fest, or whatever colorful string of words you prefer to describe February 14th as, you can pretty much clear your calendar for Immortalized.

Yes, friends, AMC has a new reality competition show about taxidermists, and it premieres on Valentine’s Day, so if you and your date or your friends or your cat or just you and some Thai takeout because that doesn’t sound like a half bad night actually need something to do Thursday night, here you go. The show is basically the Iron Chef of taxidermy, because that’s a phrase I thought I’d be using at some point. Challengers can face off against one of four “Immortalizers” at the top of the animal-stuffing field, and the competitors are assigned a theme. Judges will score on originality, craftsmanship and interpretation of the theme. See? Iron Chef of taxidermy. Woodchucks with fedoras and gold teeth? Bison with mechanical bodies? Foxes in flannel leaping after pheasants? All possible.

Juniper Jones has created a set of surprisingly captivating ads for the show, each showing an animal facing a natural enemy or beast it wouldn’t otherwise encounter in the wild, and how natural scenes are re-imagined by the taxidermist. Examples include a fox wearing sunglasses fending off a chicken with a head for a lamp, a bear wearing a top hat and tie made from salmon and a dog barking at a stuffed ostrich with a bison head.
